Well bar the size then, that HDready logo indictates that the TV is compatible with all the specified requirements. Any set that doesn't meet the requirements yet displays the logo is breaking the law.

on the subject of displaying goods well... there's a massive tesco superstore near me in leeds and every single one of the (maybe) 30+ plasmas and lcds are hdmi'd up the wazoo.

and that's tesco ffs! i was well impressed.

Aye its nuts Boris m8, there was a load of plasmas got trashed with Sky HD when it was released as it was shorting the hdmi sockets due to the encrypction (they have altered the 1080i in firmware on latest update for autoswitch as it was breaking JVC's).

I took a load of pics on my Sony X (from lovely Leeds Sony Centre) tonight and this is how they should be setup

Your comparing connections again and composite has the lowest quality resolution feed and its badly compressed, its basically a rf connection. I dont know why anyone would want a lower quality interlaced signal over progressive vga its a technology what was dead 10yrs ago.
Surely the resolution is less, since PAL is 720 x 576 (although interlaced), and VGA is 640 x 480? It's just the clarity is a heck of a lot better.

People want composite over VGA because they don't have TVs with VGA?

They also have a PS3 in Solihull CEX, again, running on a fuzzy TV. I tried to get a look at Resistance, but it was stuck on a menu/loading screen.

                Dreamcast's VGA output was 800x600

back on topic, i went to Harrow CeX on Sunday and nearly missed it completely cos of the compo****e+LCD combo they were using. had a go before for 10 mins or so. wasn't impressed, mainly because of all the hype, but i'm still interested in the potential of course.

i need to see it running properly so I'm gonna lend them my ps2 component cable this weekend. hope it blows me away (or at least looks like 360 stuff )

My, I didn't know that! The availability of lead in the UK was terrible or non existant though..

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty certain it was 640 * 480 @ 60hz! I should be getting a Dreamcast VGA cable from America in the next week or so, so I'll be able to check

The one in Leeds had one, and I actually had to get confirmation that it was the PS3 as it looked no better than a PS2 on the normal TV they had it on, I still dont believe it was a PS3. I had a bash on Resistance and was not impressed at all, after playing gears of war it just felt old, it might be a good game once you get into it but if I had just spent ?600 to play it I would be very angry!

Dude, I thought I'd covered that by stating at the beginning that it was being tested under the worst possible conditions. I can't say I've ever had the displeasure of playing GoW through composite, but even in the HD screens I've seen of Resistance, it doesn't match up to GoW in terms of detail.

I'm sure it's not representative of the short-comings of the PS3, as Resistance is obviously a much smaller project with fewer recourses/less development time, but whatever the reasons, I really don't think it matches up.

That picture make me do a sex-wee!

                            *ahem*

Aye, another one who's been into cex (this time in Nottingham), played both RR7 and Resistance, and must say, absolutely not impressed one iota.

Was interesting to watch the reactions of those around me though, they were mainly concerned with the size of the unit, not the picture quality.

Also talking to a work colleague, who's husband is whinging at her cos his PS2 has broken and he wants a PS3 next year, cos I'm the office tech geek she asked me what she should get: 'Get him a Wii', says I, 'What's one of those?' is her response. Nintendo, sort out your ****ing marketing.

The PS3 is perhaps the most unphotographable console in history, it just reflects everything else and merges into it's surroundings (or the darkness):

                              PS360
                              PS360..

And yes, that's a PS3 through composite going through that Dell monitor, and a 360 below it (both running Ridge Racer) with a VGA lead (so HD), yet in 16:9. Gaahh!

I've a mate who works in CEX, who is telling everyone that he's seen the PS3 in HD and it looks no better than the PS2. It's driving me mad!

Why do people have a need to justify their buying decisions? Just because you have a 360 does not mean you now have to slam the PS3, and vice versa. I'm getting really pissed at another mate who keeps coming out with such drivel about the PS3, he just has to belittle it because he has a 360.

                                Guess I'm not as insecure.
