It's a difficult thing... if there's one thing you can say about Nintendo, it's that they're far more sensible when it comes to costs than Sony and Microsoft, making losses on hardware was never really an option for them, and lets face it, they were never really in a good position to compete with Sony and Microsoft on a technical level anyway, especially when it arguably has less direct impact on the kind of software Nintendo put out anyway.

But I do agree, now the Wii rush has died down, and I've since purchased a PS3 as well as gone back to the 360, I do think that a Wii with the same kind of pushing power as these consoles would be the best thing ever. It's very easy to sound like a graphical tart when talking about the benefits of HD, but there's no doubt in my mind that it adds greatly to the overall experience.

But getting back to reality a bit, Nintendo were just never going to offer that kind of machine at the price point and demographics they were targetting, the sad truth I'm afraid =(

Visuals don't concern me. Of importance as to whether I buy a Wii or not is if the landscape is dominated over the next year or so by party games. I'm not a multiplayer gamer, and both MS and Nintendo seem to be (to differing degrees) of the mantra that playing with people is The Way Forward. Not that I have anything against that... just don't cut however few of us there are who [cliche]don't want a room full of drunken people breaking furniture or want to plug in a headset and garner a gigantic friends list for third-person miltary sims and first-person shooters on Live.[/cliche]

I don't mind the visuals being exactly where they are in terms of effects, polygon count, etc.. I would have liked them to be rendered in 720P though. 480P looks quite jaggy and a little bit soft on on my HD plasma. Although I am using a third party component cable, so maybe a Nintendo one would improve things a bit more.

I quite like the fact that the Wii is a glorified gamecube in terms of it's architecture. I think this guarantees that Nintendo won't end up losing shedloads of money and go out of the hardware business like Sega. Someone has to buck the trends of increasing development costs and I am glad it is Nintendo tbh.

I've had a 360 for a long while now and whilst I really love what Microsoft have done with the console and some of the games on the system it has reinforced to me that even the best graphics and effects like Gears of War, etc do not make so much difference to the gaming experience.

The grunt of the 360 and ps3 are clearly a great thing for certain types of games. However on the whole these are not the sort of games I want to play on the Wii. I don't think anyone expects just ONE console to fulfil ALL their modern gaming needs, however if I was to choose just one I would have the Wii above all others, not because it is the most powerful but because it seems like the most FUN to me on the whole.

not fussed about the systems power of lack of at all tbh, my only wish atm is for a steady first year lineup. They've got the momentum atm, but the slightest little hicup could ruin everything they've acheived so far.

They also need to get some system sellers out for non gamers. I'm pretty sure Nintendogs will happen or something similar, I can't get over how well that sold over xmas on DS despite it being it's second xmas.

After a week or so of Wii-ing (?), I'm not particularly bothered about seeing more Mario/Zelda games and their ilk. In fact, I think all I want from the Wii is more sports games, to be honest, especially those sports that have previously been silly or impossible to implement with standard controllers. Specifically, I want bowls, curling, improved golf/tennis games, and maybe some Track'n'Field/HyperSports style games.

Agreed, I'd love a full blow version of Wii Sports Golf. Bung in a ton of different courses, bigger selection of clubs, etc., and I'd be handing over my cash right away.

A particular wish of mine is for some kind of decent MMORPG type game on the Wii, and an online framework that really encourages the sort of environment you need for that sort of game.

For me, Animal Crossing on the DS was killed by the online constraints. I wanted somewhere I could wander around, meet new people, talk to them easily, and play mini-games with them and so on. If we were to have something like World of Warcraft appear on the Wii, I'd expect Nintendo to allow unrestricted online access to other players, to enable you to meet, talk and experience some kind of sense of community and competition.

Of course, not being much of a PC gamer, and being thoroughly put off by monthly fees, I've never played a game like that before. But for me, the Wii would be a hell of a place to start.

I think my other wishes are just simple things, and things I expect Nintendo to come up with in the next few months:

Better graphics in games - no more Gamecube lookalikes, we want games designed from the ground up to utilise Wii's power. If it's twice as powerful as a Cube, show us games twice as pretty! End of conversation!

A few really big games for core gamers. I'd even include Mario Galaxy in this set, but more importantly, a decent Resident Evil game and more of that ilk. Games that really draw you in and require a lot of your time, not mini-games or party games that you can dip and and out of.

Like I said, I'd fully expect Ninty to deliver on all three of these very, very soon. If they screw up the online service this time round, I think it'll lose them a lot of popularity.

Lastly, as a sneaky fourth wish, like so many other people I want to see more on the Virtual Console. I mean, how many games do the Big N have in their back catalogue? Hundreds and hundreds! So why are we only seeing a trickle of releases per week? For me, I'd like to see a lot of decent N64 games before I'd be willing to shell any money out.

                      Here endeth the rant!!!

1)For the Weather Channel to evolve into a Solar System Exploration Channel.

2)For a Mech game (in the vain of the excellent Chromehounds) where you use tools to build your death bringing machines.

                        3)A new Viewtiful Joe game.
