I'd just been watching that and was really impressed with it. But then I read this which made me even more impressed:

Media Molecule is working with graphic artists to create new Level Packs for LittleBigPlanet. The first confirmed artist is Jon Burgerman, who also created the Burgertown track for Wipeout Pure?s Omega track pack, with more names to be confirmed down the line.

In an interview that we?ll be publishing here in full later on today, Media Molecule?s art director, Kareem Ettouney, told us that, among many others, he has also approached French artist Claire Wendling and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. They will be producing stickers with which players can adorn their levels.

The pack will work well with a forthcoming downloadable update to the game that will include a new tool that automatically cuts material to the shape of a sticker, allowing players to more easily create in-game objects using stickers.

?Jon Burgerman?s a good friend of Rex [Crowle, the graphic artist behind much of LBP?s original stickers and its box art],? says Ettouney. ?He asked Jon if he could do some illustrations that we could have in the game and he just did a heap of them. They are so empowering those bits because you just stick them on the materials, cut it out, and you?ve got like a handmade character Jon Burgerman piece.?

Other forthcoming DLC will include a sticker pack based on Judge Dredd comic 2000AD, a History Pack, which will contain a library of visual material that alludes to Greek, Indian, Japanese, Celtic and American Indian architectural styles and characters including Genghis Khan, Beethoven and Mozart, and a Monster Pack, which will contain a library of zombies, bats and other ?meanies? that players can use to create horror-themed levels.

Ettouney will be speaking, along with co-co-founder of Media Molecule Mark Healey, about the art of LittleBigPlanet at this year?s Develop Conference, which will take place in Brighton from 14-16 July. Visit www.developconference.com to find out more.
After watching the above video and reading this I'm thinking that I'd like them to invite some classic game makers to have a go at remaking levels in LBP inspired by their own games.

I haven't played this for a while, but:

      That sounds really interesting.

Another one of their celebrity levels, this time from Joe Vaux of Family Guy.

Early this year I got the call from Ken to come down and meet the folks of PlayStation and design a LittleBigPlanet level. A day or two later I was sitting at the Von Dutch office in front of flat screen TV with Leo, the guy who produced LittleBigPlanet, gawking at this amazing game.

Leo led me through a basic tour of the game?s potential. I could tell it was just the tip of the iceberg. While other artists around me worked away on their levels with a PS representative, I felt like I needed some time to let what I had seen sink into my thick skull. That night I sat down with pen and paper and sketched out a schematic for what would become the Joe Vaux level. The next day I cruised over at lunch to present my drawing to Leo. He seemed inspired. Knowing I needed to get back to work, Leo took the drawing and began the construction.

A couple of weeks went by and I get and email from KG. ?Have you seen your level?? he asks. Then he iChats some stills from the world I designed. My jaw hit the floor. Now I have to admit, I?m not much of a gamer. I just don?t have time between being a father, an assistant director on Family Guy and a painter. But, if I did have time I would eat this game for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What a blast to design and build your own game. Kudos to PS!

To the fans of PS and LittleBigPlanet: Don?t judge me, enjoy and bask in the ability to create and share with the magic of this fantastic game. Thanks to all the the great people at PlayStation (Katie, Ginger, Leo and Jeff) and to Ken Goldstein and Tonny S. for presenting this great opportunity. You guys Rock!!!

I did as they requested and tried to add 'LBPOriginals' to my friend list, but unsurprisingly they have already hit the maximum number of friends. When I search for that ID within LBP I don't get any results... has anyone had any luck getting access to these levels? They look absolutely top notch, I wanna see for myself.

-- besides which, I looked at the trophies that user has and they don't have any, not even LBP ones. How could they have published levels under that profile without at least getting the publisher trophy? Has this not gone live yet?

This should help with finding levels in the future, we'll just be able to post links and the levels will download on your PS3 automatically.

According to Evans, the service will provide each created level in the game with a custom URL that players can send to friends or even advertise online -- opening up new, direct ways to publicize original stages. Evans explains, "Rather than going on forums and saying, 'Please search for my level,' you can just say, 'Here's a link.'" When other users go to that page's link, they'll be given the option to queue the download of the LBP level, which will appear in the game the next time they turn on their PlayStation 3.

In addition to things like leaderboards, photos, and comments, the portal will also offer an application programming interface (API), which can be used to create custom LBP-related applications. Evans cites examples of other APIs for websites like Flickr and Google Maps, and says it will be possible to use the LBP API to create a Google Maps page that details the locations of levels on Craft Earth. Evans says the portal and API are currently being beta tested, with a launch coming "as soon as possible."

Also in the works for LBP is a new, ongoing beta test, which will give some users the ability to test new features for the game before they hit the retail version. Like last fall's beta extravaganza, signups for the new beta test will likely be given away via various websites and the official PlayStation blog, but Evans notes that it will probably start off as a much smaller, feedback-focused process. "This time it's less about testing the online and more about giving the vocal minority a chance to see what's coming and to give us their feedback."

During the course of our interview, Evans also talks about the upcoming PSP version of LBP, teases upcoming downloadable content for PS3, and curiously refers to LBP as "the first game." For the whole scoop on what's next for Sackboys around the world, be sure to read the entire transcript of our entire interview with Alex Evans, coming soon.

I've just had a note from my mum to say a second sackboy has turned up at my house - they are breeding! It looks like my double application fooled the system.. I feel sorry for anybody who didn't get one though as it wasn't my intention.

just got my sackboy in the post, he's lovely, quite big and really nice quality.

I'd have paid for him but as a freebie he's even better.

Thanks man. Looks totally different, hope you can use the characters in normal maps. The engine does some superb lighting, maybe we'll get really lucky and they've built all the levels from the game.

Or maybe it's a tie in for an hd remake coming to psn. I can dream
