I know this sounds like the start of the backlash, but I was always a little unsure of the fuss around LBP.

I'm sure that if it didn't look so lovely, no-one would have batted en eyelid.

Is this anything to do with those Toyota car adverts? (C'Mon!!) they seem to have the same toy characters in it. Is this a first? A game tie in with an advert?

I think you're right, definitely. I don't think many people will deny that it's an appealing idea, being able to design levels like the one shown in the demo with minimal fuss and all within the confines of the game itself, but without that level of sheen, not to mention the music (Which really was a stroke of genius), the fuss would have certainly been less.

The whole package has a kind of feel-good factor - it's very infectious.

If you want to design your own platform game levels why wait? You could play Lode Runner on the NES, Apple II or DS. Will have a lot more depth to it too (if you can call running away from bad guys a lot "depth"). You can even send the DS levels to your friends.

Won't be quite the same calm experience that this is trying to purvey though.

I saw a video of this on the US PS Store the other day and it looks simply stunning, unfortunately I didn't quite get it...It's a multiplayer platformer right? It looks very very cool and if it IS a platformer, I'm buying it!

I just watched some more videos of this...this just looks so bloody cool and good!!!

glad I'm not the only one who thinks it looks kinda pointless, I honesntly think that anyone wanting to play it could head down to theirlocal Pets at Home, "choose your character"

and run around the store dangling your character across the shelves, creating your own levels by stacking up random fish tank decorations and looking at the amazing physics of a pile of bird seed.

Both this and Heavenly Sword are now under fire - I think they're aiming for style over substance and trying to grasp the general publics imagination (i.e Heavenly Sword undeniably LOOKS incredible probably moreso to the average Joe) - The problem for them is it's the real gamers who've invested the ?425 in the machine - The average Joes are still lapping up the wii. And the gamers aren't gonna be interested in either of those two for very long and if they're meh-ware word of mouth will spread VERY fast.

And I think that's why it's time for Harrison to get the bullet.
I think Heavenly Sword is just what the PS3 needs personally. It's a hardcore type game (similar to Devil May Cry and God of War) with amazing visuals, and crucially it isn't coming to 360 as well.

Little Big Planet though I think, beautiful though it undoubtedly is, is not going to do anything for PS3 sales. It's a game targeted at kids, and there simply aren't going to be many kids who own PS3s for a very long time yet. Had it been on the Wii (which it clearly could have been as it has very simple visuals) then it would have done really well.

I'm not so sure, I'm no kid and I'm planning on buying it. I like the idea of creating levels and sharing them etc, there's a cracking video knocking about on gametrailers that really shows what it can do, it looks superb fun and a good antidote to the serious games I play like Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas et al. It looks like it could have a wonderful online community! It looks relaxing as well, which is also nice!

Also, surely you don't honestly believe this could have been done on the Wii Kotatsu? Maybe a version of it could have been, but as it appears in the videos I don't believe the Wii could handle it personally. I don't know for sure though obviously, it's just what I've seen looks far and away better than the Wii could do. Besides which, I don't think the Wii is that kind of console, the Wii is fun...end of really, I don't play it for huge 60 hour epics or extreme online battles, I play it as a party console with my mates (and my missus) and it's sheer fun. I would agree though, I don't think it's gonna push many PS3's off the shelves, though I guess we'll have to wait and see...I think the game itself will sell incredibly well and if they release a demo on the PS store it could do even better.

I think you are right on the money with Heavenly Sword though!

It's worth remembering that the Wii is a more powerful version of the console that ran Resident Evil 4. Think back to how amazing that game still looks. The Wii's CPU is considerably quicker, the GPU is also clocked much higher, and it has more than twice the amount of RAM.

It would run 480p instead of 720p of course, but there's nothing I've seen in LBP that couldn't be achieved on a Wii. LBP is a really simple game technically, it just has nice art direction.

And I'm sure some hardcore gamers of whatever age will buy LBP, but I was talking about the wider public. The usual 18-35 year old gaming market will not be interested - they want the next Gran Turismo, God of War, Devil May Cry, or of course GTA. We should revist this thread once LBP has been out a few months, see if it's broken the 250,000 unit mark.

I think that LBP looks visually like a HD version of pikmin, I certainly think the same style could of been acheived on the wii. Anyways I'm tired of all this talk of FPS/HD/720/Upscaling , it is the gameplay that counts and LBP to me seems to have none. Yes we all know they Wii is about fun which is why it was commented that LBP is appearing on the wrong platform for the target demographic of who is going to buy the machine as LBP is neither a 60m hour epic or feature and extreme online mode.

But I don't think it is - I think the gameplay is going to be Kung Fu Chaos 1.5 with some QTE's added in and 1up seem to agree.

People who want DMC will buy DMC - I don't see a market for this outwith casuals - it's why they product placed it on Heroes surely ?

                          Superb trolling.

The gameplay seems to me to be similar to Mario Vs Donkey Kong on the DS, create levels, share and enjoy, not particularly difficult or over-the-top.

I guess that's only fun if it's not on a Sony console? Wierd.

To be fair, that's very true, that's why I said it could be done but not exactly as we've seen in videos etc. I've no doubt it'd be just as good or as fun on a Wii if it happpened.

It's wierd, I forget how amazing Resident Evil 4 looked on the cube, it really was sensational.

I've not seen/played Mario Vs. Donkey Kong on the DS so I can't comment, but I certainly have more faith in anything Nintendo Create than the creators of Rag Doll Kung Fu.

Which is fair enough...but Mario Vs Donkey Kong was an excellent game, basically it, like any other game has in built levels you can play, basically puzzles you solve or you try and find out the way to do the level most efficiently, but then if you wanted you could create your own levels, and share then via the DS friend codes etc, which just added more fun to an already good game.

That's pretty much how I see LittleBigPlanet, only more shiny and with a better multiplayer interface, which is why I'm planning on getting it.

Conversley, I've never played Rag Doll Kung Fu, but even if I had, I wouldn't judge a developer on past games before even trying their latest. Had I done that, I'd never have played Devil May Cry 3, since 2 was absolutely gash in my opinion.

You do realise Rag Doll Kung Fu was a spare time side project for Mark Healey, it wasnt created by whats now Media Molecule it didnt even have a full team or budget.
