    PS3 Issues Thread

Seeing as the PAL launch is tonight, lets get this rolling...

Just connected my PS3 to my TV via component, selected HDMI through the menu, changed input on TV but am getting no signal.

I've used a DVD player previously through HDMI without any problems so don't know whats going wrong here.

Any advice would be appreciated as I'm getting very annoyed here

the answer is in that paragraph above,IF you have connected by component you wont get a hdmi signal as one is digital the other analogue(spelling?)

component>set ps3 to component>set tv mode to component

You connected via Component but selected HDMI? Would that work?

Component then set to HDMI and switch TV input. Thats what the prompt said

hasan, did you actually do this:

            1. Connect thru component
            2. Switch to HDMI
            3. Power down
            4. Connect HDMI lead
            5. Switch on

            and then got no picture?
I'm guessing that's what you meant to say. I'm sure you're not dumb enough to expect HDMI to work thru component leads?

I didn't power down the system, it gives you 30 seconds to switch over to HDMI and confirm that it works on the input, and reverts back to component if you don't confirm.

              Of course I didn't!

do you have to select hdmi as a source on your tv?

I had the same trouble with my v+ box set it up with the hdmi ,would test signal then flick back to scart.I had to change my samsung to hdmi using the remote while it was testing.

plug the PS3 in via composite, whilst having the HDMI lead in the console and TV ready. Switch on the PS3 on the composite channel, on video select HDMI and choose resolution, switch to HDMI and you should be good to go!

just out of interest, getting my PS3 tomorrow and I already have the HDMI lead plugged in and setup. Will i be able to turn it on first time using just that connection or will i have to piss around swapping cables and mucking around with the composite?
