My mate has bought a PAL PS3 from someone he plays football with. It's 6 months old (allegedly) but it didn't come with a receipt.

When you insert a game or Blu Ray it can take an absolute age for it to load up. Sometimes it just hangs on a black screen and you have to reset it. The game will always load up eventually though. He thought this was normal, but my ps3 doesn't take that long to load up games etc, so could it be on it's way out? Or could it just be slow?

Also, where would he stand with Sony with regards to warranty as he doesn't have a receipt?

    Thanks.

My replacement 60GB arrived about 30 mins ago. have to say excellent service much better the MS for my 360's.

Now have to downllad everthing agin and install themes and remember passwords for my USA and Jap accounts!

Guy who delivered said he has replaced loads them, the mian reasons for failure are discs not reading and power failure (mine).

          @ GB-

Sony replaced my 60gb several months out of warranty. They askedn when I bought it and I gave a date that meant it was about 11 months old (which I thought was correct at the time) and swapped it out a couple of days later.

I wasn't sure where to ask this but here was my best guess.

Basically when I watch mpeg4 or similar files from a burnt DVD on the PS3, it seems that the audio and the video seem to not be on the same timing. It's very slight, but the longer the file is played, the more the timing of the audio seems out of sync with the video.
By this I mean, at the beginning of video, everything seems fine, but by the end of it, it's almost a second out of sync. Totally weird and annoying.

              Any ideas?

What happens if you watch them from a memory stick or USB drive?

I'm not able to try that unfortunately. But I also played the same DVD disc on my computer and it was absolutely fine. It's so odd that the PS3 can't playback properly a simple file..

Pause it then rewind for a short bit. Does that re-sync it? If so, the PS3 is struggling with the bitrate. Otherwise it's the video file itself that's out of sync (common problem with poor encodes).

Your last idea would make sense, but I did try the same files on my computer and they played perfectly. So it's definitely a PS3 issue. I did try the rewind thing and start again, but doesn't make a difference.. Really a strange thing.

It'll just be a difference in the codecs used by the PS3 and your PC I guess.

try changing the audio from VBR to CBR, common cause of sync issues (you should be able to do this without spending hours re-encoding the video)

I have a tiny, ever so slight synch issue with BluRays on my UK PS3. A frame or two, but enough to be distracting. I don't get this with anything other than the PS3, all my gear goes through the same amp, and that has a mic to test delay from speakers to your sitting position to make sure it's all coming out correctly.

                            Any ideas?

I find different inputs require different audio delay settings. My V+ box is set to 50ms, my DVD player is 120ms and my 360 is 5ms. All through HDMI.

If your amp has audio delay, it should be able to have different settings for different inputs. Can you manually adjust the audio delay? I know that most Denon and Yamaha amps can.

I should add, are your amp and TV HDMI 1.3? if they both are, then they should sync automatically with the PS3.
