Store Download Speeds

having given up up on getting the Wifi to work on my PS3 I went for the crude but trusty big cable option last night (about a 20m run).

after fiddling around for a bit and getting an account created i put the duck game, flow and GT HD in my basket for download.

checked out fine and waited for the smallish files to download, now on wireless to my 360 i'd expect a big 750mb to 1gb download to take around an hour, my connection is a 10mb broadband so no pipe issues really.

it took about 3 hours for these games to come down, via a cable !

is this normal, is the PS3 store painfully slow or am i missing some finer tech points here ?

nope, they just seem to be really really slow, and i hate they way they have to install as well.

3 hours? Jebus, the longest I've ever had was about 25 minutes for MK2, and I'm on wifi.

Always pretty quick for me too. Wifi shouldnt even been a factor unless, for some reason, your wifi is crippled. Wifi speeds are generally quicker than broadband...

Theres "no finer tech points" though unfortunately. it just does what it does...

I got Gripshift last night in about 20 minutes and haven't had any problems with it going slow at all and I'm on wireless and only 2mb broadband.

got flow when it came out from the U.S. store at around 9:30pm, and that took 3/4 hr on a 4mb cable connection.. The best time to download stuff iv'e found is around 1:30pm / 4:30pm... - i downloaded the Armoured Core 4 demo, and that came down in 45/50 mins...

Wireless it feels like forever to grab a download.For some reason wired connection my ps3 has issues connecting does take the pi$$ when you think your running a fast connection as for me 10mb now 1st may 20mb hope i dont have to wait forever for Ninja Gaiden at the weekend

I have absolutely no problems with speed via wifi on my ps3 (or 360/PC for that matter). Have you guys tried changing the channel on your router and seeing if that makes a difference? You might be getting some interference...

I had major hassle with wifi downloads with my Netgear DG834PN.

Then eventually read somewhere that the PS3 is currently not compatible with it until some firmware issues are sorted.

Using it with a cable now and had no problems at all.

Mines of decent speed thru a cable but sometimes it does seems slow but I think thats cos I can't see the kbs gettin' transfered per sec and what kb its on exactly, like on a normal computer, I'd like for them to include that in an update actually.

If u want slow try the Wii with the nintendo wifi adapter (made slower due to the fact my PC is far far away from my Wii) T_T I really need to get a router...

On me 4mb cable modem, was'nt to bad today - downloaded the ninja gaiden demo - virtual tennis demo and the stranglehold trailer one after another, all came down within the hour from the US servers..

I noticed things were slow since I got my ps3 downloading from PSN - Was wireless connected to my router; so, last night I connected it to the router wired - still slow to download.

I'm on cable so I disconnected the router entirely and stuck the RJ45 directly between the PS3 and my modem

The difference was absolutely insane - Crazy speeds in comparison (I have a 20mb line).

So, if at all possible, I'd recommend getting your router out of the equation !!!

Must be some settings on the router, or the router itself, if it's causing problems?
