If you can buy but one game it must surely be the beauteuous and wondrous concept of driving gaming heaven that has come to be known only as Motorstorm.

I was going to buy my ps3 today. Gamestation have a good(ish) deal. Ps3 + Xman 3 Blu Ray, + any two games for ?465.
However someone changed my wifes shift at work and she is now about tonight so there is little point me buying something I can't play. Looks like May 14th is when I will pick it up now.

If you have a 360, it's a cheap Blu-Ray player that also plays Motorstorm.
Nope: Lair is coming, GT is coming; I do not think one buys a console for "exclusives" anymore; I certainly can have all 3 consoles if I want, as I believe many here can / and have; But the 360 doesn't interest me (sold it) as it is flawed (no built-in wifi, overheating, red circles of death, no HMDI 1.3 no HD format built-in) and EXTREMELY noisy. Make that Plane Landing (think Boeing 737) landing. I couldn't watch any - ANY - DVD on it. Plus its upscaling completely beaten to death by my Panasonic DVD player's (130$) upscaled player.
Plus, you have to pay to go online.
I have an HD set-up with a 50" screen and yes, Blu-Ray for me was decisive in my purchase. Just got my free Casino Royale and it ROCKS!
Wii = hoax
360 = nice but the elite does too little, too expensively and waaaay too late
PS3 = expensive, but future proof
There's my answer.

What would I recommend?
Railfan <-- PS needs Railsims.
Gundam Musou
Resistance: Fall of Man
Virtua Fighter 5
Motorstorm
Flow
Those spring to mind that I've really enjoyed.
Motorstorm I wasn't keen on at all at first, but gave it another go and something clicked with it.Last edited by Bleeders; 27-04-2007, 10:02.

I'll be waiting until E3 to see if Sony will bring out the multi-colours systems as I really would like a white PS3 to go with my iMac.
I am also starting to think of buying one system at the end of the year instead of feeling crowded with all three formats and hopefully, the PS3 will prove to me that it is worth owning the one system alone but with Halo 3 being on the Xbox 360 - it is a hard decision.
Oh and a price-drop would be nice too; £350 would be appealing.

GT5 will be ace, but it won't be for ages, not this year at least.
As you say, many here could have all three consoles if they wanted. Which means that most have a 360. Which means that the appeal of the PS3 to most people on this forum is entirely down to the exclusives on the PS3. And it doesn't have that many now, nor many on the near horizon.
Your complaints about the 360 hardware are all valid, but of course you completely omit the issues many people have about the PS3 hardware: lack of rumble, missing online features, no working scaler, pad is too light, crappy triggers, no scaling of DVDs whatsoever, lack of infared so doesn't work with universal remotes, green RGB issue, lack of achievements, etc...
If like yourself, a 360 owners decides that the issues of the 360 are fundamental whereas the issues of the PS3 are trivial, then the PS3 might as well become your primary console. But if not, then I stick by what I've said: It's a cheap Blu-Ray player that also plays Motorstorm. No-one's convinced me otherwise yet.

I bought my unit as a friend was on the way over from the states, and it was half the Norsk RRP. I also really wanted to play some PS2 games and have no PS2, not to mention getting import blue ray films, which look shockingly good on my Plasma.
Lets get one thing straight, the console is LUSH. The controller is pap. I hate the "Dead zone" of the sticks, and I find my fingers slip off the triggers. It also seems to disconnect when playing RFOM (Odd!) and I do miss rumble on Motorstorm.
Anyway, the PS3's time is 12months from now, and I can fully appreciate folk with 360's not bothering with it for a bit.
Motorstorm and RFOM are good games, and great launch titles, but what we need is a second wave of heavy hitters, and we are some time from that.
If you don't own a 360, and the games you like are also coming out on the PS3, then I would openly suggest the PS3, due to the build quality & noise. But if you have any interest in online, then 360 is where things are at currently.
One final note, if you have an XP/Vista box full of pictures, MP3's and videos, then the media capabilities of the 360 as a media extender are far superior to the PS3 and make it a compelling purchase. Just a damn shame about the noise!
So rambling here, but I'm trying to point out strengths and weaknesses on both platforms, and help readers in there choice.
For me, I needed both.

Unless there are either:
a. Compelling games only available on PS3 that you want right now
or
b. You want to play Blu-Ray movies
There's not much point in getting a PS3 IMO. In the same way that as I have a PS3 there's no point getting a 360. Many of the decent new games are on both platforms e.g. Oblivion, Fight Night 3 so you only need one or the other unless you simpley HAVE to play resistance, motorstorm or F1

Yeah, I'd hold off buying a PS3, this games droughts killing me! I think the Wii's a great console, though also suffering a games drought, I'd be tempted to get an import one if anything if I didn't have a UK one, in fact I'm still tempted! The PS3's a nice piece of kit, but it looks like it's going to take a while to take off.
The PS2's a much better bet at the moment!
