Had my first ever lock-ups the other night, twice while playing Snooker 2007 (at same point, when screen goes dark blue just before the autosave), touch wood been OK since.

      Bollock.
      Me too!

When the DVD stops and I go back to dashboard, I think the laser goes back to centre? I get an awful GRINDING sound for a few seconds. The disks aren't scratched.

      It's an Oct2005 machine.

      Anyone had that problem?

just got back my 360, and its a different, japanese machine this time. only slight downer is its manufacture date is 1/11/05, so dunno how long this`ll last. seems brand new, and wanted to go through the initial setup you get when you first boot up out of the box. obviously was spared all that as i still have the HDD from the original unit.

seems a lot quieter than my last model, have`nt had a chance to try out the DVD drive yet, as i`m trying to get it all updated, etc. does`nt run even remotely as hot as the other model either.

I'd break mine if it meant I'd get a quieter (when 360 disc is in use) machine in return.

          Hope it's a goodun mate.

well, seems a lot quieter when running a game. before i had to really switch up the amp, as it was so loud. also kicking out a lot less heat that before while playing a disc as well. before the entire case would be running hot, now its just slightly warm in the middle, currently in a horizontal position.

i`ve just saw`d a couple of bits of wood to act as a platform for the PSU to take it off the ground. before it was running very hot, now its a lot cooler as well. i dunno if it`ll make any difference in the long run, but paranoia levels are high in this house just now...

Sounds like you got my Japanese XBox 360 back, manufacture date 11.05 and super quiet. It only lasted 6 weeks before it died (got it in September sent for repair in October) so it would easily pass as being brand new and it ran super quiet too.

I could PM you the serial number I still have it writted down, that's if you wanted to see if it matches, would be interesting to see.

PeteJ, were you given a carrier tracking number and if so, did it work?

I was given a number for the initial collection, but UPS are pretty good and it arrived at the repair centre the following day. I haven't received any further correspondence from MS or UPS since.

I still haven't received an email telling me that it has been shipped!

After my 1st day ring of red panic I had back in September my 360 has been fine..........................up until yesterday!!

After it not being played for like 10 days I switched it on about 6 times & every time I got the ring of red & no recognition from my TV of it even being on i.e. it didnt jump to the AV channel.

And just as I was about to start playing Lost Planet too!!
                        B'Stards!!

Looks like I'll have to get on the blower to MS then.
Whats the number I need to call again?

I'm a little shocked! Not 360 console itself but the pad, wireless pad. I dropped it from knee height (when SAT DOWN) and it hit the floor...picked it up and the B button has gone all funny, loose and spongey!

Gutted!! Anyone else had this sort of thing happen to the controller?

Maybe you should open her up and have a look inside. It might be that the plastic inside has broken and it's no longer being held in place. It shouldn't be too difficult to fix (I've modded my controller, so I know what it looks like inside.)
