Only problem I've had w/ my 360 is it seems to really struggle on the cutscenes on GoW... it's as if the laser is too weak to read the disc, except I had no problems on other games, and the rest of the game is fine. I know I can just press start and skip cutscenes, but it's still a bit annoying. Disc is mint.

The majority of disc read errors are caused by dirty optics or the laser becoming miscalibrated - you can clean your drive with a DVD cleaner and a squizz of compressed air to the relevant parts, but playing with the pots to sort out the laser voltage is a lot more messy and you'd need to open up the 360 and the drive.

My japanese unit gave out today, got graphical glitches 3 times. First on guitar hero 2 at the end of a song, then twice on the gears of war menu screen. Sent it off for repair today, not to MS to some other company that supposedly adds better fans, reroutes air flow and cleans it out etc, and i get a 6 month warrenty...not bad i'd say. Seems better than what MS are doing.

How's this for audacity?
I received my 360 on Friday with a new drive installed and confirmation that the drive was indeed faulty. Bear in mind the reason I returned the 360 to them in the first place is because it had carved nice circular grooves into my Forza 2 disc. And this is my second 360 in three months as the first was doing exactly the same to my Gears of War disc.
Confirmation in hand, I called them today to request a replacement Forza 2 disc. "I'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to use our replacement disc service."
"Er, but that costs money."
"Yes. Yes, it does."
"There's no way on god's greeen earth I'm going to be paying to have a disc replaced that was damaged by your faulty console."
"Sir, that's all we can offer I'm afraid."
Lots of persisting, a small rant and they finally agreed to exchange the disc.
I'm exasperated with the 360, having to deal with their customer service centre, waiting 15 minutes each time to get through, having to insist on good customer service. Big thumbs down from me. Nice console, appalling quality control and customer service that swings wildly between extremely helpful (having the 360 picked up for free for eg) and diabolical (the above example, misinformation, refusal to acknowledge that the 360 could possibly scratch discs).

My US premium has a manufacture date of 2005-11-26 and got the 3 red lights in May of this year, so i rang Microsoft.
The guy on the phone ( a manager) was a grade A tit who took down my mobile phone number as having only 9 digits. Guess he thought i was special and out of the millions of people with mobile phones in the UK with 11 digits, mine has 9.
Frightening really.
Anyway, he told me i was out of warranty and would have to pay ?80 to get it fixed, which i told him i was having none of, and it came to a stalemate.
After i hear about the extension of the warranty to 3 years i called them today and got through on the 43rd minute of holding. The guy said that i was in warranty all along and apologised for the incompetence of the previous manager, but also said they don't normally touch Canadian consoles, but in this case they were going to, and i should expect a call within 72 hours.
My question is do i tell them that after being told i had no warranty after the first call, i opened the console, breaking the warranty sticker? Or just wait and see if they mention it?
It's only the plastic casing i opened, as the actual internals are untouched.

It's a really difficult one to be honest! I don't know which I'd do either and I don't really like to advise you one way or the other in case you loose the free replacement...
If you say that the 1st one confirmed that you had no warranty and explain you asked an engineer to look at it or something, they will have the managers details recorded but I'm not sure if that would be enough for them.
