Oh I'm in no doubt they'd try and buy me off with a refund and wash their hands of it - but if MS won't repair it because of this 3rd party BS then GT will be losing more than just the service fee.

Did MS accept yours for repair btw and has worked fine since? Buying a new 360 is out of the question, I'm not losing an extra £200 over this.

Did MS take it though knowing that someone else had worked on it? I can't even afford a new core. If MS DON'T take it then I have a case - otherwise I probably would have to send it back

To be honest I would phone them up

            0800 587 1102

You can email directly fromthe Xbox site though

Last time I tried that email I just got a `please phone the helpline` response.

They won't arrange repairs via email (so talking to a phone donkey is the only way forward).

Off to MS or back to Gamestation where I bought it?
IIRC you have 12 months in which you can take it back to GameStation and swap it for a new one. I did that a couple of weeks ago, all you need to take in is the actual machine itself and the power supply, plus your receipt of course.

The upside is you get an instant replacement and a guaranteed brand new unit (MS generally 'fix' you broken one or send you someone else's fixed broken one). The downside is that none of your DLC, and I mean none, not even free videos of gamer pictures, will work unless you're connected to Xbox Live. You have to phone up Xbox support and get them to reassign all your stuff to the new machine's serial number but I don't know how much trouble that is as I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Can anyone confirm this out of interest?

I cant confirm it but id assume its true, isnt it true of all electronics that if it is opened by an untrained/unlicensed person it voids your warrenty.

I've read on other forums of people that have had their warranty-voided 360s repaired by MS, although I assume it's just been where the returns dept's been swamped and they haven't checked properly.

I've swapped out the fans in mine hence my sticker's bitten the dust, but if my 360 were to red light I'd argue like hell that I swapped out the fans myself because there was no way I was going to pay £80 for a £10 job.

My console is out of its warranty period as its a launch day machine, but the way I read that other post that I commented on suggested that they wouldn't work on it AT ALL, even if they were paid for an out of warranty repair.

Where would I stand with my console? It is bloody firmware flashed (not by my own choosing, and please note that I don't condone piracy and don't use the console to play pirate games).

If it goes tits up, can I get it past MS without them realising it has been gypsy-ized?

What do you think? Considering XP can detect how far you've moved in your seat since last installation?

I heard that MS have changed over the drive, in cases were a flash 360 was sent in for repair.
