Anyone got a general idea of how long MS take to turnaround a console repair/replacement? Mine was picked up by UPS today... oh, how I miss it so! (get a grip)

    Comment

If it was picked up today (and assuming it's a PAL system) the usual turnaround is:
      tues = pickup
weds = delivered to MS repairs
thurs = MS repairs ship off replacement console
fri = you receive via UPS courier

That's how its been for me.

On a related note, i've received my 5th 360 console today.
And again, it seems to be a new unit since it has the see through sticky labels over the disc tray/ IR sensor.
The machines production date is 25/ 05/ 06 and it has the samsung-toshiba drive.
Though one concern has to be the ejecting/ closing of the disc drive... in that it gave off a slight grinding noise, which is much more noticeable than the previous consoles ... ho hum

However (this occured on the last console as well) when loading Perfect Dark Zero, it loaded up fine first time, and got the required update for it. I then exited to the dashboard, and then launched the game again.
But it didn't boot up - citing a dirty disk. Which is nonsense, since i've barerly played the game (when it's not being used, placed back in its case)

So i ejected and loaded the disc drive again, and this time it goes to the 360 DVD menu.
I switched it off and came back an hour later, and it was fine

As mentioned, it did that with the last console. But for the life of me, i cannot see how it's a dirty disk!

I'm pretty sure if i try these 2 things:
      1. the 'make Oblivion freeze' trick i can more or less do at will now
      2. trying to exit Season mode on NBA 2k6 - where it will almost certainly freeze' hang the console.

Then i can at least figure it 'might' be a hard disk problem :/

      Who knows.

My launch day PAL unit has been as good as gold, but these horror stories scare me. I'll definitely be taking up the extended warranty if I decide to keep it past the 12 months.

Thanks for that geektanic - gives me hope about receiving a replacement in the near future, but of course I will be watching out for what I actually receive.

I too thought my 360 was solid...bit of a nasty suprise.

Seems that there may well be more than the usual amount of malfunctions with this hardware. I imagine this will all be repeated with the PS3... watch out early adopters.

Typical! I click on the box that says "No issues" log off. Go to switch on my 360 and get flashing red lights and "Error 68". Which, if my checking on google is correct is a hard drive error. I unplugged it all, plugged it all back in and it seems okay now. How odd. Anyone else had this problem?

MS are not picking up my call, I called twice and the second time I called I waited 30 minutes...

              THE BASTARDS!

At first I thought it was a hidden upgrade with the BC update, but then I tried it with PGR3, Oblivion, Burnout, and then COD again, and it only happens with COD.

Im not complaining, as its soooo much better when I can hear footsteps all around me much better. Just want to know if this is a problem, or not.

call of duty 2 only uses 1 proccessor and thus doesnt need as much power as the other games that use multiple cores, my call of duty was the same.

That may well explain why this is the only game that has never froze on me then

Can u guys try an experiment for me please?
                    Try this:
If u have the Premium 360 or wireless controller then turn on your 360 by using the power button on the console NOT by using the controller. The controller should now still be turned off.
Do u guys get the 1 Red Light like I did?

This is what I got when I 1st powered up my 360, but I wondered whether it was because I turned on my 360 but not my Controller & because the console didnt detect a controller it read the situation as an error.

I turn on my 360 like this most of the time mate, and as yet havent had any red lights. You should be able to turn the pad on when you like.

Well I received an email today saying that my 360 is winging it's way back to me and is now with UPS in Brighton. I guess I should be getting it on Monday. That's incredibly quick really - they must of seen how many Microsoft points I had been spending and are desperate to re-open that revenue stream.

I had been worried. I still have to find out what exactly they have returned to me, refurbished or new etc. but I seem to be doing better that this guy:

A friend at work referred me to it when I told him my 360 was kaputt on Monday. I had kittens when I read it.

Can you believe it. My mate not only had a brand new Premium console delivered the other day, the one that broke after just a day went off and they've now gone and cocked up and have sent back another Xbox 360.

So now he has three hard drives and two Xbox 360's. Jammy bastard.

Saints Row just froze on me, I get a disc unreadable error almost every day. Is this enough to warrant another new 360? This one hasnt died completely yet unlike the other two, so Im in two minds as to stick with it although a fault each day is too much for my liking.

Just tried the FEAR demo - screen locked up with blocks running down it so reset console. Now it emits a high pitched buzzing and won't boot up at all. Had 3 rings of death on, which is hardware failure

not impressed that a machine that has run without a single problem since launch has been seen off by a bloody demo from a piss poor magazine

I've been having occasional random freezes when playing anything so I've Disconnected the HDD and have been saving to a memory card, I've not had a single crash since
