Go to the system blade and then select memory.

Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?

Be aware that I've done that and my HDD has never been the same again - it has trouble "remembering" that I've downloaded map packs etc and I have to intitiate the downloads again before it can find them. It does this LOADS.

        Thank for that info.

I had found the link to the method for clearing the hard drive cache on Microsofts knowledge base had been removed. The mods on the xbox.com forums also seem to be removing all the posts that showed how to do it, that's probably why then.

The guy at the support centre didn't mention to do that either, group policy?

without the HDD I have played TD:U now for a constant 5+ hours without incident, I'll just settle for sending the drive in to be replaced.

@Tankshell I am sorry that nothing improved for you after taking off the HDD, I hope they get things sorted quickly for you.

Got a replacement machine today, seems to have the Samsung drive. Is this a good or a bad thing? Also has anyone noticed v small scratches appearing around the edges of theirr otherwise mint discs, ala early Xbox1 machines?

Has anyone ever had problems where the disk tray doesn't open.

I have my console verticle and probably every one in three times now the tray decides it doesn't want to open.

Hope they realise the pain they're causing.

It's done by a form on their webpage, AFAIK they don't publish a separate email.

Here's the webform link, sorry if it's of no use.

This is a bloody joke. I wait on hold for 40 minutes, finally get through to some girl who can barely speak english. After five minutes getting her to correctly take my name she asks me what the problem is... I tell her my 360 has packed in and would like to go about replacing it. Line goes dead. Nice.

Ok I'm home now and awaiting my call back from MS Support at around 6.30ish (will clash with Hollyoaks typical)....so once I have carried out all their stupid tests and they have confirmed that my X360 is up the chuff; hopefully I'll get a date when they are going to come pick the sodding thing up and repair/replace it....

I hope they replace as my console was a launch day one and has the naff dvd-drive as well....

                          I'll keep you posted

Well, just got of the phone with the lovely alice from MS Xbox Support. She was lovely really; just so friendly and super and and and...oh who am I kidding; what a piss take.

First of all, they are going to email me a document which I have to print out and then was told that I have to pack my 360 up in a non-xbox cardboard box (so I can't use the box the machine came in...why???) and make sure it is packed well as they can't be held responsible for damage caused during transit...then I have to phone the courier and arrange for pickup. Hell, why don't you just give a screwdriver and I'll crack her open myself. ****. Off.

The only thing is...I can only do all of this once I have recieved the confirmation email through from their support software....problem is and I quote; "our software is sensitive to non microsoft hotmail email addresses so we can't guarantee you will get the email through, in which case you will need to ring us back and try again".

I mean really, are MS so completey up their own arse that they think absolutely everyone who happens to contact the support desk will have a hotmail account? I mean really? REALLY? I can just see the developers now; I know, let's make this support software really flexible and only allow email addresses with a @hotmail.com or @msn.com domain name on the end to get sent out....good idea!

My god. I wait in anticipation for the email....

At least the first person you spoke to didn't just hang the phone up on you...

I just got off the phone too, exactly as above, but he told me to 'pack it away in its original box'??? He also told me I have to send back my HDD...

You have exactly the same problem I had - make sure you phone up EVERY DAY until you get that email. I had to wait almost two weeks until they gave me a shipping number because every time I phoned they told me "the call has been closed, we tried sending an email but it bounced back". So much is automated that they cannot see that if an email bounces back perhaps they should PHONE the customer on the PHONE NUMBER the customer provided...

                                But hey ho...

The good news is when you do arrange pickup they are extremely quick in getting it sorted and returned.
