Got A new HDD back from MS support today.
Impressive turnaround, I got mine to them yesterdayn as I only posted my faulty HDD on Tuesday. The only thing that was lacking was that they used a basic (non bubble wrap) padded bag, and enclosed no paperwork.
Haven't done any testing yet, but I did have over 20+ hours problem free gaming with no HDD attatched to my Xbox 360, so I hope it stays that way.

Oh cock. Turn on 360, go to demos, delete a demo to make space for stuff I want to download, go back to Live blade...
...why isn't it signing in?
No profiles found, that's why. Look in the Hard Disk: corrupted profile. Great. So I at least try to "recover" my profile: log in, gamertag, username, password, click recover... and I get told to check my hard disk has enough space (um, yes, 7gb worth) and check it's seated right. I've done this three times, and have reseated the hard disk. No luck any time.
Oh, balls. There go all my COD2 savegames (depressingly, the only title I've put serious hours into - just haven't had time to start playing the timesinks like Oblivion, etc). Any suggestions? Or are we into exchanging the HDD territory?

My 360 just died on me today (brought near launch). I think its the disk tray. After a few minutes of play on either a game or dvd it crashes. No error reports or red lights appeared. It took forever (and some very strange dial tones on initial attempt) to get through customer services and after half an hour of explaining the issue to nauseum and going through a few basic tests they've agreed to repair it.
They asked me to return the machine with just the Hard Drive (for some reason had to remove the original faceplate on there) Will I get my profiles and games back or should I take steps to back them up ?

First signs of problems were the random lock ups during Test Drive Unlimited, this time though I was greated with the ring of red on rebooting.
Removed the hard drive and whilst using the dashboard got this image as the machine hung.
Rebooted and got no video signal and the traditional ring of red.
It has done this over 6 times now and I am currently in holding pattern on the XBox 360 support line. It's more irritating than last week as now they are advertising all the great peripherals that they sell, it's annoying because they must know your ringing that particular line because your machine has crapped out.
I'm contemplating selling off the games I've got and the ones that I've got in transit, also the peripherals that I have and just cutting my loses on this one.

I got mine from Toys R Us on launch day, am I better off asking them to replace it or going through Microsoft's return system?
Also do your vertical lines look anything like mine?

No mate, it's more like this shot I found on flickr:
Ok, will give Toys R Us a go tomorrow. In case they want everything that came in the original box, I'll need the console, HDD, pad, PSU and component cable - that's all, isn't it? I do have my receipt, but not the box the whole thing came in.

Yeah that's evrything you need.
I can't see them being funny about you not having a box when you bring it back, I'd suggest giving them a call before you visit. If they have an issue with you not having the original box offer to take the new one unboxed and they can return yours in that box, worth a shot?
As for mine I did get those squares on a frozen reboot on the XBox360 logo screen.
My unit is Japanese and this is causing me a headache the replacement service offered last week has not been offered this week. I am now on a 24-48 hour supervisor call back list to discuss these differences. I think if I do get a European model then I might have to call it quits and sell everything off.
I've got Project Sylpheed and Kengo Zero coming to me soon as well.

Good luck with yours, NeoStuey.
Originally posted by RosscoWhen I returned mine to Game, I just took the 360 and NOTHING else, not even the HDD. Was so much easier so see if they'll do the same for you if you prefer.
