We Love Katamari has an amazing soundtrack. My GF bought it for herself and tries singing along to that song called Michigan in broken wapanese

Ha my main reason for starting the thread is that my copy of the soundtrack came through the door this morning. Listening on my mp3 player today thinking, "my goodness, this is probably cheezy as hell, but fricken brilliant at same time". Disco*Prince, Katamari on the Swing and Everlasting Love are currently my fave tracks.

I also was thinking what was the last 'next-gen' title that had a great soundtrack... maybe that's gonna be the new Katamari
Also, been playing FFVII over the week and that also, is legendry

I think the last one that I loved enough to buy was the Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack. That was just incredible. There's loads of great VGM out there though. With me, it's just I haven't been playing as many games.

I loved the music in Dead Rising though. Not sure if I'd buy the soundtrack but it was all perfect for the game.

Edit: Oh actually, no, the last VGM album I bought was the Phoenix Wright Orchestra one. That just rocks.

Just bought Super Castlevania IV (my first VC purchase). The music is even better than I remembered from all those years ago. Superb.

I've gotten back into playing PSO again, that certainly has a memorable soundtrack, wouldn't say it's great music as such but it's perfect for the game and sticks in your head all day. Too bad Blue Burst doesn't seem to have the intro anymore .

Hitman : Blood Money, Jesper Kyd's score is excellent and really suits the locations you visit in the game.
Elder Scrolls Iv Oblivion has a cracking soundtrack as well, apart from those 2, nothing really sticks out recently.
Kinda cheeky but Castlevania SOTN on live arcade, what a score!

last couple of games i really remember were Max Payne 2, Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory and Shenmue II but these are getting on a bit...
ahh, wait till Fatal Fury Special hits live arcade, you'll be humming those tunes all day :P

Hmm...honesty? Final Fantasy VII about 8 years ago (give or take)...

Remember the soundtrack CD's etc...the orchestral (real) version of Aerith's theme..so beautiful.

                        I agree.

It is the only game I have ever bought the soundtrack (downloded on iTunes).

I listen to it every once in a while simply because you can listen to the music and suddenly remember the specific piece of music in the exact location or cinematic; it is very rare for a game to do that but 10 years on, FFVII is still the best in my opinion.

I have to say that Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 and Silent Hill 2 has some fantastic music as well as the odd music piece in Metroid Prime and Zelda: the Wind Waker. I also like the music in Halo but for some reason, I disliked the Halo 2 soundtrack despite being similar.

                        Oh!

                        Jet Set Radio Futtuurrreeee!

A mate of mine had all the FFVII stuff...about 3 sets of CDs (or more) each containing 4/5 discs each...they were awesome, then they released FFVII soundtrack orchestral (wasn't called that but can't remember what it was called) and...it just blew my socks off.

I remember listening to it on headphones under the stars on the beach...absolutely sublime beauty.

FF VII for me is a very very special game...anyone who's played it will remember that scene and that music. A next gen PS3 remake would pretty much be the best thing ever.

Off the top of me head......

Secret of Mana: tracks that will make you swell up.

Resident Evil 2: Best horror soundtrack I've heard.

Donkey kong country 1+2: Not just a pretty face, the music in these games are stunning!

Tomb Raider 1: The main theme is so relaxing and epic at the same time.

                            Metroid Prime: Very cool soundtrack.

There are many others of course......but I find mainly older games have the decent soundtracks as newer games seem to be lacking.

The last one I can think of is probably Gitarooman (Lives!).

A really eclectic bunch of tunes. Nuff Respect is probably my favourite with it's funky trippy vibe....and the Legendary Theme is cool too esp. the way it's reprised in rocked up form later on. The accoustic version sounds like something out of Animal Crossing....at least to my (tone deaf) ears!!

It should be mandatory listening. Especially for people who either like (or compile) 99.9% of the EA Trax stuff!
