Following up on my post on the previous page...
It annoys me somewhat that "Jap new import appreciate" thread has become bitchfest 2003 on perceived "have and have not's".

Why not just skip the thread instead barrelling in and spraying it with cat urine.

Here's a thing, I AM an elitist I always have been, always will be, and come from a very long line of elitists.

That has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that I got a slight pop from seeing the size of the Luigi's mansion Jap box up close and personal, or was surprised that the PS2 was slightly deeper than I thought it was going to be or that Kuru Kuru Kurin was still fully playable even though I don't have a clue what the on screen text said.

This is NTSC-UK we import, many of us do it because we-enjoy-it, if anyone doesn't then there are hundreds of boards and thousands of threads which can cater to you.

Jap console being the most interesting desirable or exciting thing in gaming is a statement of opinion, no one claimed it to be a fact, for other people I'm sure the US launch is a massive deal. It's a real big deal for me as I finally get my hands on the games which you can't just bluff your way through the language barrier.

      Elitism
      (1) n : The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.

      (2) a: The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
b: Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.
If enjoying a Japanese console launch, just-because-you-can is in someway elitist, then so is importing games because you're not inclined to buy PAL releases.
No one said that. Try reading the posts again. C-

I don't see anything in the definition of "elitist", or "elitism" about lording things over the "less fortunate", that isn't elitism that's a mixture of arrogance & vulgarity.
Dictionary definitions are not utterly inclusive, but if you take the first definition you list, if you regard jealously by others as "favored treatment" then it fits the bill perfectly.

Judging by the spelling I presume that is an American dictionary definition anyway .

Elitism is a system where you believe you are better because of xyz, and feel you should be treated better because of it. There's nothing in there about actually being a loudmouth and banging on that you're better because of xyz, that's a different matter.
I disagree, but you're just playing semantics now. Whatever label you want to give to it, feeling superior over others is ****ty. End of argument.

Oh come on, this thread was never anything more than a thinly veiled attempt to suggest that importing will never be as good as it used to be because of more people becoming involved. It's incidental, but the original posters views on this are well known.

Start your own thread and we'll all quite happily join in and celebrate Japanese launches. But leave the elitist bollocks at the doorstep, eh?

I would love to go on holiday to a remote tropical paradise. The first steps on the sand each morning. Slipping into a pool within a shaded forest. The only man there. Nothing but nature and alone to explore. Raising my hands skyward each morning knowing all this was for me.

        Tenerife just doesn't do it...
