That is just a totally bizarre admission. Saying you "think" a game that many previews said seemed almost complete may not be released in the next 5 months is baffling.

I'm inclined to believe its online related too.

I played this over a month ago and the build felt very well polished. Can't think of anything else it might be.

I've read lots of comments about the dev having a hard time with the framerate and slowdown. I wonder why they have these issues? ... Can't people just make a game - that runs well. The hardware is very powerful - and I bet Wipeout, however nice to look at, won't be astonishing.

Two conflicting statements released within the last week is very odd. I am sad

The first statement didn't come from Sony though and people who have played the game seem to feel that apart from the occassional and not unexpected problem, it's as good as finished.

I'm still thinking that it's something to do with the online side of things as even in the last couple of weeks nobody has been given the option to try that.

I'm sure I'm the only one but I'd really not miss that side of things if they dropped it to get teh game out.

I'd really miss online though, unless they patched it in at a later date for free I wouldn't have a problem with them releasing it without the online mode.

Colin Berry, the head designer guy, said many months ago that it was 99% complete. He has since said something came up and now they're fixing it and left it at that.

                    ahhhrrggg #$^#@#@$ ,
why can't a game like Fatal Inertia have these problems ?? ...

all the previews I've read where very positive with no mention of bugs, they just couldn't comment on the online play... so probably the problem lies with online play of the game...

oh well, I prefer a bug free , perfect playing game and atleast I know now not to expect this game before the end of the year...

I really wanted this game to play in my summer holiday and there are no big games I want to buy ...

pfffff, it's gonna be a very busy winter with Gears2, WipeOutHD, Mirror's Edge, POP4, Left4Dead and DeadSpace .....

                        @ Leon

I see what you're saying mate but native 1080p and 60fps online multiplayer for a proper 3d game (you know what I mean by that, not pixel junk monsters etc.) is possibly a first on ps3? I'm not sure about that but I don't recall anything else doing that. Maybe at that resolution it really is pushing the hardware. IMO a framrate drop in Wipeout would be like dropping a frame in Virtua Fighter i.e not acceptable.

You could be right but given that in both Pure and Pulse, they could have gone for a stable fps over filling the screen with stuff and didn't, I'm not sure that the fps is the top priority for the team.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online had all the stuff you just mentioned but it's netcode was ****.

Can you elaborate on why a frame drop in wipeout would be a problem ? Just curious as it has never been a problem with any wipeout game in the past - it's nothing like a VS fighter.....
