I just assumed the Zone craft handling was based on the easiest of the team ships?

The rumour mill is starting up again as IGN Australia have listed "Wipeout XL" as a new release for PS3 (on Dec 31st!).. the listed price is considerably higher than a PS1 classic so people are speculating that the long awaited DLC for Wipeout HD has now taken the form of a new game - an HD upgrade of the original in the same way WHD was an upgrade of Pure/Pulse.
Personally I'd rather it came as DLC. A separate game means you can't mix & match the tracks and also splits the online community between the two games :/

An interesting tease. Was it XL in Australia or 2097 like the other pal territories? I'd be stunned if they don't just create DLC for HD. It would seem nuts to do anything else. It was really well received, all the groundwork is done and yet it more tracks would give it a massive boost.
As for a HD upgrade of 2097, I'd say that's unlikely for many reasons unless it's just the PS1 game rendered out in hi-res with the tDR textures replaced. To actually remake it would require the physics firstly and that has been something the team have been asked about over and over and they have said they won't/can't do 2097 handling, depending on when they were asked. Given the work that went into WO HD, to choose now to try doesn't sound likely to me.
But it could quite possibly be a full game's worth of classic tracks that just slot into HD though. But they would end up being modified like the classic tracks in Pure, which were shortened and altered probably partly to suit the handling but also because (according to one of the team, though it sounds bizarre and a little unlikely to me) they lost the files of the original tracks.
Your last paragraph is spot-on and I think that's why DLC is far more likely.
From Studio Liverpool's Colin Berry via Wipeoutzone - "I can state 100% no work is being done on this, so its 100% likely just the old psone ver appearing on the store." He also says - "the DLC pack for HD, its being worked on, it is coming. When ? When its ready. What is it ? There will be a planned announcement of its contents closer to release to build talk about it."Last edited by Dogg Thang; 18-05-2009, 07:59.

Excited about this, I knew it was coming but it's nice to have more concrete info.
I only watched the trailer once before leaving for work, but dare I say I was a little bit disappointed? Assuming those were the new tracks, they seem to be just alternate layouts set in the same environments. It just looked like Anulpha Pass, Ubermall & Metropia... I was hoping we'd get some new scenery and colour schemes. Of course 8 tracks is a hell of a lot so there could be more we weren't shown!
I'm expecting it will be a pricey bit of DLC as it's basically giving us the same quantity again, maybe another 12 quid price point?
As for the trophies... well I hope they are all bronze. I am too young to die. Not to mention the inclusion of new online modes means more online trophies... which I hate with a passion!
That said I've been really enjoying Wipeout HD online more than ever recently, was celebrating just the other day for getting my 'Come Back King' badge. A VS Zone mode is a bizarre idea though... with all ships having the same rate of acceleration it's going to be a competition to hit the first speed pad surely?
edit - found elsewhere, they are counting forward and reverse tracks in the 8 so it's not quite as big as I thought:
To confirm the tracks in the pack; you will be able to play are;
Modesto Heights forward,
Modesto Heights reverse,
Tech De Ra forwards,
Tech De Ra reverse,
The Amphiseum forward,
The Amphiseum reverse,
Talon's Juction forward,
Talon's Junction reverse.
Plus the below Zone (also playable in Zone Battle and Detonator) tracks playable forwards only;
Mallavol,
Syncopia,
Corridon 12,
Pro Tozo.Last edited by Darwock; 02-06-2009, 00:58.
