I think Edge's 7/10 was an unfair score for Metroid Corruption. 9/10 is much more appropriate in my mind. It is a really excellent game and manages to improve on the already great Prime.

It's a very good game, but better than Prime? No way, not to my mind at least. Prime's one of those extremely rare games that is nigh on perfect and, unlike Corruption, very hard to fault.

problem is though with sequels they dont really have the same impact

i mean for example halo 3 as good as it is i do get the feeling of already played it before........ i am still puzzled by the hype .....in my eyes bioshock warranted it more while its not to everyones taste....it was something different and a great setting

its like with the dynasty warriors games to......i really enjoyed them but now the same thing is getting so boring.......i would have given the early games like dynasty warriors 2 and 3 about 8 out 10......but now would give them a average score......not because there bad just there so familiar

Hmmm...see, others might just call it 'decent'. And 'decent' would put it around a 6 or 7 I think.

meh - wrong thread. I realised this was a magazine thread that I vowed never to enter again.

To be honest I dont think any of the Metroid Prime games deserve such a high score, All the scanning and not enough save points make them very labourous in places...

I never managed to get through the first or second games despitite enjoying them, as I found them equally frustrating as well.

7 was probabaly about right for both of them ( maybe 8 at a push for the first one becuase it made the leap from 2d to 3d so impressivley, but it deffinitley isnt perfect and worth the 10 games tm awarded it.). So, while I havent played it yet if its much the same I could see why 7 is probabaly right for this one too.

Though I'm not sure there was ever any doubt that Games tm were gonna give it a high score anyway, they seem to be pretty big nintendo fanboys, seems like they have a retospective of mario games every other issue (not that theres anything wrong with that.)

The original Prime is one of only a few games that would get a 10 in my book. I haven't finished Corruption yet but if it maintains the same level of quality to the end then a 9 seems spot on.

Agreed. Not perfect, obviously, but as close to perfect as I've played in the last few years. Haven't played Corruption, but if it's better than Echoes then it certainly can't be bad.

I got bored of Echoes in about an hour and a half, and I loved Prime from start to finish. As soon as I realised Retro were going to rub that binary light and dark mechanic in my face as well as the backtracking and scanning, I lost the will to endure.

Fair enough I can understand why people might not like it even though I loved it

Echoes is a shadow of the original (Pun intended, you're not the only one fed up with these opposites that have been the focus of big Nintendo franchises for so long), but it was enjoyable enough for me to play it to completion. Parts of it are right up there with the better parts of Prime too, they're just late in the game.
