I agree with you as well as I said, they both deserve to be in any footy fan's gaming collection.
I think this is the issue that I have with Pro Evo at the moment. They are treading dangerously close to the 'rehash the same old formula and put it out as a yearly update' that EA have been accused of so venomously in the past. I suppose I haven't really played Pro Evo since number 5, but it doesn't seem like the newer versions have added anything significantly different to the mix other than playing a new game of football each time, with a different emphasis on certain aspects.

The difference is that people are so quick to aim that critisicm at EA yet when this game falls foul to the same issues, people defend it rather than complain.

I'm all about the gameplay. I'm not gonna complain if it still plays great, if I play it for a whole year non-stop... which I have every year. Who was still playing FIFA07 (before 08 dropped)?

Anyway, stop all trying to gang up on me with all your horrid FIFA poison, PES til I die! Where's the PES fans at? waaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I'd say 08 is already wearing off yers

I was. I sold it when I was playing Pro Evo, then re-bought it because I missed it. Sold em both recently.

I think this is an interesting point as well. Those that play Pro Evo tend to stick with it and play it fairly repeatedly over the year, don't they? I have someone on my friends list who is always playing Pro Evo! I know it plays a great game of football as I have played a lot of Pro Evo in the past and given Fifa a miss.

I own the PS3 version now, and while it seems to move alot nicer than the 360 demo its still incredabley hard, though im sure some will say realistic, its just a matter of opinion, its deffinitley more like real football than the new PES on the 360.

This years PES (the 360 one) does have the fact that unlike FIFA its players dont look like fat evil demons of some sort, but the gameplay feels far too on rails and unresponsive. Plus the graphics are pretty much the oposite of FIFA's dark and overly atmospheric efforts. They are bizzarly bright and cheery yet also dreadfuly souless.

To be honest nither are perfect by a long stretch and im still having more fun playing PES6 on my PS2

As good as PES is, I really think they need to take some time to move it on - maybe have the lead development team spend two years on the next 'proper' one that moves the series forward while a secondary team makes the next one.

There's been very little changed since about PES3 whereas although FIFA probably isn't (yet) as good, at least it's been making jumps every year and bringing plenty to the table. FIFA was shockingly bad not too long ago but is now a serious competitor, while with PES we're lucky to get a competent online mode or some licensed teams.

I wonder perhaps if Pro Evo peaked too early? I remember in the past discussions that I would have with game playing friends where we all agreed the perfect football game would be the presentation and licensing of Fifa, with the football game of Pro Evo. But if you have a company that keeps wanting to bring out a new version of its product every year, yet you don't radically alter the presentation, it means that the gameplay has to move on significantly. But if the series has the gameplay nailed down very early on, where is there to go with the series? I wonder if people would notice if they re-released something like Pro Evolution Soccer 2, but with a revamped graphics engine?

The thing is, EA has raised the bar rather.

Most sports games just require a new roster each year, but now EA have started trying new control methods...new online methods...all sorts where previously it was just : "Here's a new shiner version with updated teams!"

Do you FIFA guys find PES too challenging?

EA may pack more licenses and more features, but at the end of the day its just gloss on top of a game engine that is still no where near as responsive, deep or entertaining as Pro Evo's.

We'd all like Pro Evo to alter the master league to make it more realistic and I'm sure that will come once they finally go proper next-gen with the development of the game.

In 'real-life' multiplayer there is no better game than Pro Evo and I know that every time I buy the game, I will easily get a whole year's worth of gameplay out of it until the next one arrives. I couldn't say the same of FIFA.

This is very true. Out of all my mates who also go on about the FIFA holy grail, they stop playing it about a month later and start rabbiting on about the next one That speaks volumes.

                            Are you joking?

Compare the two games' difficultly settings.

For example, put Pro Evo on the easiest settings and put FIFA on it's easiest.

On Pro Evo you can literally hold down d-pad right and run through the whole team!

Likewise, FIFA's world class difficulty is punishing, just like Pro Evo's.

Nobody is calling either the holy grail, BOTH have room for improvement, but there's less between them than ever this year.

Sorry, never played it on easy.. I imagine it to be too easy and not very challenging. Like you said, actually.

Hmm... sure we've read this somewhere before? Oh that's right, we heard it last year... and the year before that... and the year before that.
