You mean like if you are playing against someone who is using Utd or Barca and they are on the ball with Ronaldo or Ronaldhino you can't do **** all about it?

Hmm I have played loads of ranked matches against players who used Barcelona and Man Utd and haven't really had a huge problem with dealing with said players. I was the same when people used Brazil or Inter to take advantage of Adriano, it is really a matter of how you defend and also if you are good enough. Of course if a player is good and knows how to use Ronaldo or Ronaldinho then it will be harder but a player who know how to defend can deal with the players most of the time, just like real football really! FIFA doesn't have this, when you take control of a star player it doesn't feel much different to taking control (no offence) of a lower league player.

We all know how good you are at Pro Evo mate

I felt the same thing in Fifa as well to be honest, it's just as annoying

Wasn't blowing my own trumpet there, I swear -->

I understand your frustration about Ronaldinho and Ronaldo though, especially the latter! They certainly have made the winker a force to be reckoned with in this iteration of PES but that was to be expected after the season he had before PES 2008 was released.

            Ronaldo is a goal monster.

That has annoyed me a lot recently with WE (as I will continue to call it!). The star players CAN be unstoppable without being controlled by someone that good. I went to a tourney a while back and played as Lyon. Every single game I lost was against the top tier teams and all the goals I conceded were ones where I made multiple clear tackles in the build up but they just kept the ball. That is ****. You can defend "well" but when someone can literally run AT you and out of ten "attempts" get past you maybe 3/4 times there is **** all that can balance it up. I found the stars to be even more powerful in PES compared to WE btw.

Totally disagree, you can't be "not good" at PES and get away with it, even by using star players. You might win one game here or there, but there is no way unless you do not know to defend even moderately that you will be beaten a player who just simply runs at you. Oh and you forget that everyone has these star players at their disposal, so I don't really get this "I lost cos he kept using <enter star player name>"

I guess I don't know how to defend then. I press the button, my player puts his foot out, touches the ball and...it doesn't move. Or there are two/three players on the man all applying pressure and he still runs away.

That happens with uneven teams - it is OK with even teams but the example I gave was of Lyon vs, say, Barcelona. If I play against the same teams with better teams, I concede very few chances and my tackles stick.

WE is awesome, I love it but I find it a shame that you have to stick to the teirs. personally I prefer playing with mid-tier teams but very few other people do so it ends up top-tier. grr.

I agree with you saif actually, I find the opposition can sometimes just run at you and sometimes you can't do anything about it. The thing I've found is that sometimes there are so many attacking and defending players crowding around a goal mouth scramble that it's pot luck as to who gets the ball, and it's usually the attacking team as the goalies are ****e.

Maybe we're not as good as others but that shouldn't mean the game isn't enjoyable, unless those instances are so frequent that they spoil it that is.

Unless you support one of the top clubs in Europe, if you wanna play as your favourite team, you've no chance.

Me and my mate occasionally have our famous Japan v Brazil match where he looks to avenge his initial embarrassing defeat to my Nippon. He's beat me once in about twenty matches.

Know your own team's strengths and know your enemy. Admittedly, he's not the greatest player, but bless him, he tries. It's always close and I do find I have to defend a lot. Thank goodness Nakas (Nakamura) has sweet playmaking skills to feed Tamada and Yanagisawa.

The New FIFA (on the next gen consoles) is impossibley hard even on its diffault difficulty, so sorry, you dont know what youre on about as its alot harder than PES anyway, which is piss on any setting.

PES is actualy incredably predictable and you can easily score even with a poorly timed through ball... where as FIFA is virtualy imposble to score with a through ball at all, thats becuase defenders have aparent Super A.I.

Hopefuly next year the Next gen games (or at least one of them) will find some balence.

hoolak and ezee, I have been playing WE for a long time, since 2002world cup and have played either the euro version or Japanese version of all the WEs since the first J-league. I am also not too shabby at the game. I may not be amazing but I can hold my own.

If I play someone not great, yeah I can do the equivalent of JPN v BRA (actually, JPN are a good side for their level as Shunsuke is fairly decent) but I do not mean that. I mean experienced players that are not *that good* being able to get past your defenders. It is more to do with the mismatch of teams and star players being too good. If you are playing as a team with star players too, the defenders are usually competent enough to be able to deal with it. I have an issue with the second tier teams having a big gap to the top tiers.

My fave series of matches on WE was 5 0-0s in a row I had with my mate on WE6/ England vs Italy. Tight games with few mistakes but a real tussle. I feel those games do not happen anymore. I still play with the same mate and the games now always have goals. Cannot remember the last goalless 2 legged game.

I do MUCH prefer WE/PES though. Never played online, seeing as my PS3 version has been sent out, I look forward to some games with you - high scoring ones no doubt....

PES, easy on any setting?! If you're a (pardon the pun) a top player then yeah maybe but otherwise no way. The new FIFA it is hard to score on if you try playing a passing football game, run down the wing however and toss the ball in there and 9 times out of 10 it will result in a goal, somehow! I don't think PES is "predictable" (well in 2008 anyway), the AI team will try and mix up their play at time and string together some lovely moves.

Well I feel Completely the oposite to you really, the 360 version of PES 6 was quite hard becuase the A.I. kinda jumped on you out of nowhere, but was still easy to work round once you knew what you were doing, 2008 just has A.I like the PS2 versions have always had, in that you at least have, only the gameplay isnt as enjoyable IMO. PES has never had great A.I. really, but at least it was alsways more of a challenge than FifA up until this year.

I personaly feel out of the new next gen Games FIFA is the winner here (im not sure where you got crossing and scoring being easy from becuase i certainly havent noticed it this year on the PS3) but I still dont think thats saying much.

And for the record Ive always though PES was better before so this isnt some weird fanboy talk.
