I said it once, I'll say it again. You can pretty much guarentee PES won't be going "next-gen" until either, Konami throw resources specifically for the 360/PS3 versions or they knock the PS2 one on the head, which won't be happening anytime soon in the next couple years given the games deserved status as a million-seller (in Japan anyways!).

They need time, but with that do they risk losing ground to FIFA for a year or two? I doubt it, its easier for them to rehash the same thing over and over, although reading the various interviews about the game prior to it's release, Seabass even admitted that it has problems, although one has to wonder had information came out that read "We don't know why there's slow-down" regarding FIFA 08, you can pretty much guarantee the rabid PES zealots would be all over it.

PES isn't a bad game by any means, its still probably the best footie game around (6 doesn't count nor does it exist ), however, can anyone honestly say the series has really moved forward significantly in the last three/four years? For a game that has set the bar so high previously, it's struggled to maintain it's own very high standards in the "next gen". IMO of course.

I dunno, just disappointed that for the last couple years I hope this is going to be the year when the game transcends the previous into the next-gen and really elevates the series, where as in actuality it's become a very good parody of itself.

I'm a sucker though, and end up always buying it. ;p

Very true, Bleeders. PES needs knocking down and redoing. At the moment we have the same old engine with tarted up visuals. They're probably restricting themselves using this slightly enhanced PS2 engine. I still say if they weren't forced to spew out the 360 version of 6 last year we could be looking at the true nextgen guise of PES this year. Who knows.

Hopefully, next year we'll finally get the true goods that Seabonce has already been spouting about even before the release of 2008. He's obviously not happy, saying things like the team need a complete reshuffle etc.

As it stands this year, I'll take 2008, no problem. It plays better than last year's. Loads more animations, more flowing animations for dribbling. Tweaked passing and shooting. Should last us the year at least.

I'll say this though, I would still take PES6 360 over FIFA08 FIFA 95 on MD too

Pro Evo on PS2 didn't really get going until they stopped making the PS1 versions as well, so I'd expect the same this gen. However, the PS2 will probably stick around a bit longer than the PS1 did.

FIFA 95 was/is a classic, although at the time, control of your player was negligible.

I remember playing a FIFA game on my mate's SNES somewhen around that time. You had to turn the offsides off, because otherwise they kept blowing up for offsides while the other team was in possession of the ball on the attack, taking you back to a free kick on the half way line.

I played too much SWOS throughout the '16-bit' era to worry about owning many other football games though. ISS has just taken over since FIFA RTWC98, haven't bought a FIFA game since.

My 16bit footy adventure went like this...

Kick-Off 2, Sensi, Jikkyou World Soccer Perfect Eleven (Jap ISS), a bit of FIFA in between ISS, then loads of ISS and Deluxe.

Forest had a good rating in that version, we finished 3rd in the Premiership that season. Then we sold Collymore to Liverpool, and it all went down hill for us since then, just like Fifa!

Haven't bought a footy game since Pro Evo 5 on the PS2 and just checked out the latest demos of Pro Evo and FIFA. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the Fifa demo. May even be the first Fifa game I purchase since the World Cup 98 one on the n64. That's a big maybe though

Not too impressed with the Pro Evo demo though. Doesn't seem to have moved on at all. Still no analogue movement, same clunky animations and I'd imagine it has the same frustrating points as before which usually become apparent on repeated plays. I got tired of that with number 5 on the ps2. Maybe next year, eh?

Anyway, stop all trying to gang up on me with all your horrid FIFA poison, PES til I die! Where's the PES fans at? waaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I'd say 08 is already wearing off yers
I am here hoolak, do not fear! PES is still the best football game around, FIFA is ok this year but still not at the PES level. Its the little things in PES that are beautifully done, for example the movement and mannersims of certain players. I could be wrong but I don't see any of that in FIFA, all the player models are pretty much the same hence they move and act pretty much all the same. People say FIFA has the online modes but that novelty will wear off after a month or so, just look at the FIFA league that was started here when FIFA 08 came out....you could hear a pin drop in there! In comparison the online side of PES will keep going, our leagues and tournaments on here are a testament to that! The only significant feature FIFA has over PES, in my opinion, this year is the be a pro mode and once again I can see that wearing out after a while too.
