Insane demand. Nintendo has constantly sold everything that it company has shipped in USA. From January to September shipped numbers were around 500 000 units, and during last month input was directed from other regions to USA, basically doubling local shipping numbers (980 000 units). Still Wii was sold out within a two weeks. In Japan shortages started again just last week after Wii Fit was released, but this is mostly due re-directed manufacturing.

And let's not even talk about Finland, because most people here still have delusions how PS3 is supercool and it will crush it competition soon enough just because it is Playstation. According to sales data, Nintendo controls 8 percent of the market here, DS and Wii combined.

It's not just Finland though. This appears to be the view in the back of a lot of people's minds in spite of the Wii's current success...

That's still Sony's stranglehold over the European market (which they then go and ignore and treat badly)

Personally, I was resigned to mass shortages and inflated UK Wii bundle prices at Xmas before the holiday season actually arrived. That said, it's fairly annoying to see UK Wiis on eBay going for double/treble their original RRPs.

I'm giving it till late February/early March, and if the situation doesn't improve then I'll probably bite the bullet and import a US one (Although tbh, I don't really want to as I'm dreading having to splash out more on a decent, NTSC-handling TV).

Aria have them in stock - but you'll be paying over the odds for it:

              My point exactly!

Just out of interest, have you (or anybody else here, for that matter) ordered from Aria before? What are they like?

I've bought a lot of stuff from them, including a number of Christmas prezzies this year - never had a problem with them and stuff turns up fast, but that Wii price is a smack in the face IMO.

Jesus, that's retarded. My dad picked up one in store from Gamestation last night for me for Xmas - Console, SMG, Zelda, Paper Mario, Brain Academy and a free Pacman CD case for £299. Strangely enough that beats their online offer as you have to buy it with games they want to give you.

Now all I need to do is to decide which game to play first - Zelda or Mario Galaxy, 2006's GOTY or 2007's

Hey - I never said that I was actually going to purchase a £270 standard Wii Pack from Aria!

At work we seem to be now getting a steady stream of 20 or so units every few days, so it's worth checking with your local Asda/Tesco/whatever to find out when they expect to get stocks. They're not as impossible to find as they'd like you to think.

When I was in work last night (Asda), they were announcing on the tanoy that they had them in stock.

Why does this happen every Xmas, people always rushing round to buy their kids the latest console and then shops up the price in order to rip people off for Xmas so that they dont disappoint their kids come the big day, argh, happens every year.

Ironically enough, I was thinking how this is the first Xmas period since 2003 where I've not had to buy a new console.

                            2004 - PSP & DS.
                            2005 - Xbox 360.
                            2006 - PS3 and Wii.
