    Wii shortages still, why?

cut a long story short i decided to avaoid the christmas rush for a wii last year and wait until some more games came out for it, ie mario and metroid 3. Down i went to my local high street at the weekend to get one but no, it appeares its sold out throughout the country im told, no online retailers have the thing, and generally im quite annoyed.

What i would like to know is this, how can nintendo not make enough of a console that is basicly a gamecube with some flash memory and add ons attached?

My personal opinioin is that nintendo are holding stock back, if anyone has any facts to proove otherwise please tell, otherwise, why do it?

I`ve no idea why this is still going on. I`m in the same boat, last year I thought I`d give it a miss but now I want one I can`t get one for toffee.

A dude in my local games shop says it`s because Nintendo aren`t making enough, but what does he know? The same thing has happened this year as it did last year and the only people that are benefiting are teh ****ers on ebay that are knocking them out at grossly inflated prices.

I doubt they're holding stock back, more likely concentrating on other regions, that's Nintendos way you see. "Operation shaft Europe" it's called.
But people are going bat **** crazy for them too. Almost everyone I know wants one, young and old.

things are only gonna get worse so you're best off getting one ASAP before the 'xmas rush again.

I don't know, I've seen wii's in stock quite a lot of places.
The problem is theres alot of places that want Wii's: Japan, USA, Europe, Australia etc.
Nintendo said they'd release/ship the Wii in China next year. (worried by the Vii maybe)

The sales figures suggest they aren't holding stock back. They are still selling as many as they did when it launched. I can never understand why people think companies would hold back stock. Sure you create an artificial 'buzz', but artifical buzzes are very short lived. If the demand is there, you want to sell as many products as you possibly can.

There are loads of people in my work who bought one in the last two weeks - some as a Christmas present, otehrs just for themselves. This includes loads of the girls in Accounts who previously wouldn't have touched a games console with a big ****ty stick.

Most of them asked me where to get one and I told them to place an order with the local Game or Gamestation. You can do this by phone and they will phone you when they have some in, but they will only hold them for a day.

I'd say some of the shortage is 'manufactured', creating demand in itself. this is being fuelled by the ebay crowd, I'd suspect many of the consoles that are being released online are just being horded for profit.

I got my from Amazon in Germany, no shortage over there. No problems with stock in Mallorca either, there were piles of them in loads of shops.

My local gamestation is resplendent with Oui's. Guess everyone who cares already has one.

Was looking for one myself for about 2 weeks and got fed up waiting for one I wasn't going to be ripped-off with - either via ebay scalpers or **** bundle deals, so just decided to get a US one from VGP instead. ?215 with Zelda and here in 3 days.

This website is for sale! dvdboxoffice.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, dvdboxoffice.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

Or DVDBO. When I bought one in September it was ?170 inc postage and ?20 to cover VAT and charges. Takes 48 hours once it's shipped - I ordered Monday, shipped Tuesday and received Thursday.

EDIT: whoops, they're out of stock - knew I'd loaded the page for a reason

I don't agree. That might work for a £20 toy, but people don't drop 180 bucks on a console just because it is in short supply. You've got to want a Wii to buy one. All the short supply will mean is that buying patterns will shift slightly, so that some people will buy now rather than wait until Christmas.

If anything, a shortage in supply has the complete opposite effect. If you can't get a Wii, you might buy a 360 or a PS3 (or something else completely different) instead. Remember the Christmas when slimlines PS2's sold out and the XBox got a large bump as Christmas buyers turned to the next alternative?

I think we should stop suggesting that shortages in supply are deliberate for any consoles. I believe it's clearly nonsense.

Been looking at some on eBay and they're not even shifting for that much more. Around ?230. It's saturated by them.

I wouldnt chance ebay, youll prob end up with a empty box or a broken one at best.

Just keep trying argos and other elec places like currys, try in the midweek too as friday to sunday are lot busier times.

My gf got me one a couple of weeks ago on a saturday from Trafford Centre, GAME had 60 in and sold em all in a couple of hours.

They're coming in steady where I work. 2 in a month which isn't bad for an indie.
