SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3 - PSN)

Hey man! Not our fault, if we were made aware to the fact that we would be getting codes from Sony we would have not bothered with the Eurogamer codes.

Rubbish, I just just did it to annoy people!!




I'm still not convinced that we can't give these codes to people who didn't get one for a few reasons:

• The download is very clearly listed as a demo & not a beta, the email invitation states the same.
• It's not addressed to me as the others have been, it's addressed to "Dear SOCOM recruit".
• No SOCOM thread in the official beta forums.
• The people who have been able to download aren't able to access the beta forums if they weren't before.
• No mention of the code being linked to my ID in the email.
• No mention anywhere of the standard NDA requirements for betas.

What we seem to have is an early look at a demo to test how the servers will hold up (They don't) so I'm thinking that the codes will be able to be used by anybody who wants to.

Got it working! If I sit on my couch facing West, I can get in a game. Facing South, no joy.

I'm liking this, more than I usually like these actiony stealthy type of games. Shame about the rocket launchers, why must they put them in these games? It's already turning in to a spam fest

The email does state:

Promotion codes can only be used once and only by the recipient of this email. You must be 18 years or older to take part in this demo.

I'm just going by that personally, would be great if the code does work for others though.

Oh wow this is bad, frame rate is beyond dire the sound constantly cuts out and the PS3 constantly crashes. How come theres no way to mute people as well? The voice chat is horrible.

Well good thing its a beta and not the release Time to report these problems.

I don't think it's the frame rate as such, it's network lag that causes the game to hang for 1/2 sec from time to time. That's if you can ever get in to a game....

Menus are SLOW. And that's reading from the HDD. Imagine the disc version

I tried to get on twice last night but it hung both times while loading so I didn't try again. I tried setting up a private game on my own so I could at least sort out the controls but it wouldn't let me into the level without other players playing too.

Not in a position to comment on the game but most of the problems that people are reporting seem to be due to server issues.

I'm up for an NTSC game sometime. I set up a clan and fired out a few invites, but you can only invite a few people at a time. Anyone wanting an invite let me know

Send me an invite as I'd love to have a few games, not played one of these for ages and it was offline only.

It'll be fairly late tonight after the rugby has finished...probably add another 3 or 4 hours to take into account the freezes while trying to get online.

I had a couple of games earlier and I wasn't that impressed.

For a start it crashed my PS3 twice. The menus are sluggish, especially when customising your character, presumably because of loading in the models, but there's no excuse for that when it's running from the hard drive.

I've never played a SOCOM game before so I don't know if this is how they've all played, but it also just feels like GRAW, only with worse controls. It looks better, admittedly, but looking better than GRAW multiplayer really isn't that hard.

I'll stick with Warhawk for PS3 online, methinks.

Tried to get into a game tonight after trawling through the sluggish menus but just couldn't get into one properly. The one I did get into I just got a black screen and then taken back into the players screen, that is it. Extremely poor Beta/Demo, getting a game is just plain pot luck.
