If you'd only stop to think for a second about what you're saying before you go and spout your ****.

Picture the scene if you will....FF:CC is being played with 4 players all using GC controllers. Player 1 decides he wants to change equip a potion and so pauses the game messes around in the menus for a couple of mins and finally sorts himself and carries on. They carry on their quest for a couple of minutes until Player 2 finds a more powerful shield...he too pauses the game for everyone and messes around for a couple of minutes until he has his new shield equiped. Onwards they go until they reach a boss...the fight isn't going too well and so Player 3 decides its time to use some of his magic healing powers...since he hasn't got that particular spell equiped he has to again pause the game and sort through his attributes until he finds the correct spell to equip...all this takes time, and interupts the flow of the game and eventually Player 4 gets well and truly pissed off and decides he can't be arsed to play anymore and who could blame him?

All the above and much more can be achieved by using the GBA screen and therefore doesn't interupt the game for anyone else at all and because of that makes the game far more enjoyable for all.

I guess you're right though...the GBA linkup feature is a complete gimmick and waste of time. What the **** do Nintendo know about creating playable games afterall?

I'm sick to back teeth of reading completely unthoughtout negativity on these boards. ft:
whoa chill out dude. He DID have a point on the reality of having 4 gbas and link cables a distant reality and sadly miss out on a wonderful experience. I think to be honest with a little ibt of thinking on squares side, controllers could have easily been implemented with the use of quick menus. No one pauses and whatnot in pso, and balders gates on ps2/xbox/gc has 2 ppl on screen at once with little diffculty. Bah gauntlet did it yonks ago. Sadly it does seem like a gimmicky restriction on a great game

All sounds superb, really looking forward to it now.

I've ordered myself a copy of the JAP version purely because it comes in that lovely packaging, and unless it arrives and i'm desparate to give it a go, i'll be waiting to play the US version.

I've heard some complaints that the environments arent interactive enough but I get the feeling its not a big issue.

Is the game quite fast paced?

You can't go into 99% of the buildings in villages and so,
but its not that type of game really to be doing that.
Its faster that any other of the FF's before, but really it is a different game.
The story to repeat its self alot though.

When you go back to an area after 3 years the level is harder with more monsters and tougher boss fight, but so far all the boss fights I have fought at the first time have been easy.

I have not played this for a few days now , no its not lost its charm but...

Bought shenmue 2 for my old DC and its greeeaaat

What are the sections between villages and such like, is it just a case of continuous fighting and levelling up or is there something else to it?

What do you mean sections between villages?
There are none in that way that mean you have to fight, just move around with your caravan and talk alittle...no random battles.

Nintendo's dream a GBA link up cable in every home!

It seems novel a GBA as a controller and all but the guy who made these games makes crappy square games. Unlimited Saga anyone.

                    ...end my two bits.

Despite my Japanese skill sbeing extremely limited (at the moment) I am really getting into this game now. I have managed to get 2 drops of water into my containner and have upgraded my Shield, Armour and my sword twice.

Still getting to grips with the spells and combining them, but if I am correct when you combine a spell the first option lets you use the 2 individual spells and the second option gives you one new spell.

everyone I know has a GBA or an SP. 3rd party link cables are like ?1.99 and preowned (good cond; boxed) GBAs are ?30 max. the kind of gamer who would want to play FFCC honestly has no reason not to own a GBA at ?30 anyway, especially with FF tactics on the way.

I'm gonna have a go at playing despite my Japanese being pretty amateurish, it just seems like this game was made for me, but I get the feeling I AM going to give up because of the language barrier.

How long can it take to learn Japanese anyway..?

well er if you dont have GBAs then to play the game in fourplayer would come to ?120. Erk....

My point was they could have easily implemented it so controllers could have been used

i got my copy of CC one week ago and i'm in year three now although i haven't played it the last three days.
the unusual game mechanic confused me at first but as supergoal put it, it's a game that grows on you. detailed playable characters, nice animations, a story that is more a collection of events and "memories" instead of being linear and the beautiful japanese voice acting that introduces every new dungeon, all that creates a convincing and immersive fantasy world that the name "final fantasy" stands for.

the game type is somewhere between Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy. it's an adventure-rpg with realtime battles but with EXP points (raised by collecting artifacts).

but after all there are some points that keep me confused: my main problem are the characters. even in singleplayer you can create up to 8 characters (so that you can have one of each of the 8 job classes), that no matter at what point in the game you create them are part of your party and travel along in your caravan. depending on the job class each character can send items home, that his/her family uses to create weapons, food, etc.

so only by having the maximum of 8 characters the home village becomes copletely populated, but in singleplayer gamewise it doesn't seem to be of any importance if you travel alone or with up to 7 fellows. you fight alone in the dungeons, you visit cities alone and the events you experience become only your "memories" (wich are numbered). you can't even transfer items from one character to another. so besides of the fact that the home town somehow feels incomplete, there is no motivation in singleplayer to create more characters. on the contrary, if you want to keep all characters on the same level you would either have to play each dungeon with each character or take turns in playing and i don't think anyone can be bothered doing that with, say, more than two characters.

also the bonus task and being able to choose only one artifact to keep after finishing a dungeon doesn't seem to make much sense at all in singleplayer. it appears that square-enix started with the concept of a multiplayer game and failed to adapt the singleplayer mode satisfactorily. or did i miss something here?
