What has everyone been playing this week?

The games are piling up again but I've been trying to sort out campaign on MW 2. I got a bit through the 360 version but then decided to play the PC version for single player as it is much nicer with mouse/kb.

Multi will still be 360 as I am protesting about the lack of dedicated servers on PC.

Apart from that, bit of FIFA 10 and still have Unncharted 2, Forza 3 and BOrderlands to really get into. Oh, and Eyepet now and then for the kids.


EDIT: and Dragon Age - which I doubt I'll ever get into!

I've been playing though The Last Remnant on my laptop over the past few days. I'm really enjoying it, I'm not really sure why it was so hated on release. I guess it was 'cool' to hate non-FF SquareEnix games for a short period of time. It's quite a unique game with an original battle system, yet still very much a JRPG. In many ways, it's the spiritual successor to FFXII, and I recommend it to anyone who loved the artistic style of that game. It also demonstrates SquareEnix's struggles to get to grips with Unreal Engine 3, and this is probably what spurred them to port the Crystal Engine to all formats. That said, it's visually still very nice, aside from the delayed texture streaming that is a trademark of Unreal Engine 3. Overall, a very nice game.

Loads of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, have got to around level 35 now and I still feel like I have so much more to do. Absolutely love it, the best multiplayer experience on any platform.

Fifa 10 is starting to take over my life. The game is so much better than 09, I have still yet to score a free kick though.

I've just started playing Valkyria Chronicles again it's helping me gear up for the second one on the PSP next year, i think this is my pick up and play game i find i don't really need tp think when i play this

also i've been playing borderlands, uncharted 2, Noby Noby Boy and Modern Warfare 2

I've been in love with Half life 2 and Mass Effect recently, also spending a lot of time re-replaying Fable 2 and Jade Empire, as well as re-experiencing the original Fable.

I'm also re-playing Little King's Story on the hardest setting (it's brutal!) as well as enjoying Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus. Good times, good times.

God of War: Chains of Olympus: Finally finished this ahead of the collections arrival. Very impressive for a PSP release, incredibly close to the PS2 games.

Cars: Race o Rama: My dirty love affair with this series continues as I finished this one.

Eyepet: Got this set up properly and found it less responsive than when I ignored the setup rules so sacked it off.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: COD6's reign has started with sp Veteran mode started, a couple of hours on mp done and started going through Special Ops with a mate.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy: Just started this now, in the very early stages, seems ok

5 minutes on Rez, about an hour on COD:MW2 single player and then multiplayer for the rest of the week. Beautiful.

I'm mostly playing Tomb Raider 2 on my PSP, having got it through PSN. It's a really well constructed game but my feelings are fairly identical to when I played it way back when - the locations are hideously dull compared with anything in the first game and the amount of human slaughter just doesn't sit right with me. Something just went in the wrong direction.

But the actual level design in terms of the game itself is great and it's a tough game right from the start.

Returned to BlazBlue on the PS3 after a couple of months without playing...got beaten by pretty much everyone, even a ex-fellow 40-ish level player that now is lvl 70 :P
And got back to Galactic Civilizations II...that game is addictive, you can't stop playing once you start.

I'm a big old school TR fan and with such classics as Venice, Tibetan Foothills, The Opera House, Maria Doria, Temple of Xian and Floating Islands I have to disagree with you about the locations being less interesting than the original.

What doesn't help is that the first level, The Great Wall of China, is one of
blandest TR areas ever. A lot of people don't like the Oil Rig either but I found it refreshing to have a more modern locations put in.

The level design throughout, as you say, is still great and even now rarely matched in it's sophistication.

I agree though that the big mistake in TR2 was dogging it with too much combat. TR3 is where I think the series peaked and they got the combat balance right, the variety of locations and level designs that exceed even TR2.

The only problem though is that TR3's learning curve was catastrophically badly judged and almost single handedly put off for life a large part of the essential casual gamer interest in the series.

Yes, and what was really odd about TR3 was that, as much as it was difficult towards the start, the last few levels were far easier than TR1 or TR2. There was definitely a balance issue there.

I loved TR3 but always had the feeling that it wasn't quite finished.

But we'll have to agree to disagree on the TR2 locations. I'm one of those who doesn't like the Oil Rig. I think I would have enjoyed the break and found it refreshing if it had followed a dark lonely ruin but Venice was itself too modern for me and yet in ways far less believable as a location than the ruins of the first game. I did enjoy the Maria Doria though. Not quite there yet on this play through.

Still, whatever about the locations and combat, it's a great game.
