Gives MS an excuse to sell 15,000,100 point cards

This is the begining of the end

Looks that way. When consumerism and the collecting (read "Hording") mentality has surpassed the reason we all got in to gaming in the first place - i.e. playing games - then serious questions need to be asked. Of course, this is no longer the place to discuss such highbrow issues

I take the view, that, whilst this game might cost ?5 more, it will actually save me money in the long run. Without it, I'd probably be looking to get some of the other big winter games (Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2 etc) at launch, but frankly, they won't get a look in with Modern Warfare 2 around so they won't get bought until they're cheap.

Out of stock for pre-order it seems but Argos had the game up for £45 preorder but you could apply a code at checkout to get 20% off!

If you think it's expensive then don't buy it. The laws of supply and demand will ensure that games sell at a price consumers can afford.

I don't mind at all that you think this game's expensive and not worth it. I happen to agree with you. What does annoy me is the whole "internet furore" making a big deal about what a rip-off this is.

The only thing that will "send a message" to the publishers will be the sales figures, and if someone thinks Modern Warfare 2 is worth ?50 then you're not going to convince them otherwise by having a rant about it here. We're talking of a price-increase in the order of 10p per hour here.

So maybe this will come back & bite them on the arse - I just don't see the point of all the outrage & indignation over it. I'm sure it'll be discounted a few weeks after launch, so if you don't want to pay RRP for it then all that you're forgoing is getting it on launch day.

              Stroller.

I'll be waiting for the price to drop myself - I balk at paying normal RRPs anyway. However surely a company has the write to choose how much it wants to charge for a product it creates, no? It's kind of the basis for the entire economic system.

Definitely, I may not like the price but it's entirely up to me to decide whether I think it's worth paying that much or not. That's exactly how it works in an economy like ours, because they have competition they are able to sell non essential items for what ever the hell they want and if they get it wrong then consumers won't buy it.

I really don't think this price is going to affect them negatively, of course they'll lose some sales at launch but their profits will probably be higher than if it had a standard RRP.

I'm one of the few people who aren't really a major fan of the series so I'm unlikely to pay the launch price but if I have some stuff to trade in at the time and there's nothing else I want then I'll consider it.

I don't think this is an issue that needs to be analysed in great detail. People loved the original, but are naturally annoyed because they'll have to pay above the odds for the sequel if they want it on release, thanks to Activision's cynical approach to pricing. That's really it. I don't really understand why the discussion deviated to discuss the 'premium' editions of the game, those are obviously targetting the less price conscious.

Of course, Activision have the right to charge whatever they want for their game. Equally, consumers have a right to call them out on this, and vote with their wallets. I've done the same with CoD4 - I only got round to playing the game a few months ago, and really enjoyed it... but there's no way I'm paying more than £20 for a 2 year old game, so I'm keeping my money until I see it for a price that I feel is reasonable. Gamers will ultimately have to do the same with Modern Warfare 2, but I don't see what's so strange about gamers being a pissed off about this - of course they are.

Other people whom are not so attached to the series (such as myself) are worried that this could set a dangerous precident. I think this is a valid issue to be concerned about.

I believe activision of all people are pulling this because they have seen people year after year fork out 60-70 quid for guitar hero, which goes to show that money is no object.

Probably a super dumb question but, are they definately going ahead with the 10 Nov release date over here? Or will we end up waiting till... dum, dum, DUM... Friday 13th?

Games get released on tuesday in the states, so that's why the date is as it is.

Didn't think they'd go for the global release on this, Friday 13th it is then

11.10.09 is a cool date for marketing to use. I suspect it will be released on that date. Beatles Rock Band is still coming out on 09.09.09 over here and that's a Wednesday.
