I just went up to my local Asda before work (15 mins by foot from my house) and got a 360 copy no bother. There was two other folk buying it, and about 100 of each format at least behind the counter.

Just got to wait till after work to play the thing now!

Just got back from visiting two different Sainsburys. First was a superstore and was heaving, opened up early too so there was already a massive queue come proper opening time. No 360 copies left, only a few PS3 so trundled down to my small local Sainsburys where I nabbed the last 360 copy. Happy days!

I got up at 9am and it arrived at 9.03am. Wouldn't get that with Royal Mail

Morissons doing it for 25.99... might be more convenient for some (like me where sainsburys is miles away). Although I got mine for a tenner off Amazon (just had to buy an Elite too. doh)

            Man alive!

I've just come back from Sainsburg's in Walsall and it was kerazee!

I got there just after opening at 8am and there was a massive queue out the door and most of the length of the building. Somebody had been there from 6am and rumours two women had slept in their cars overnight.

They were serving from the cigarette kiosk and only one copy per person. I was pretty worried they would sell out as they only had 200 copies, but I didn't know if it was 100 per console.

I queued for about 40 minutes, petrified I'd be the person they'd say "Sorry. Sold out" to. Finally I got served and said to the lady serving "Just a packet of cigarettes please", and she actually started looking at the cigarettes for me!

I told her I was only kidding and got my 360 copy for a delicious £26 and was on my way, worried the still lengthy queue would jump me.

I feel like I should have a Cabbage Patch Doll too for my efforts.

            Crazy scenes, people. Crazy.

Does it not upset people who pre-ordered with Play/Shopto etc that they have paid ?15-25 more for the game?

              It's ?50-60 here so quite a difference!

It's pee'd me off a bit, but I'm sure I'll get over it

But then I've learnt my lesson. I won't be pre-ordering anything other than the odd Collectors Edition any more. It's just not worth it.

That's what I mean, surely that will have an effect on the games retailers if the supermarts sell the games at a loss? Won't then reduce choice for gamers in the future? I know a lot has happend to superchains in the UK in the 8 years since i left the UK but I just have this vision of towns with no shops in the centres and these massive supermarkets doing everying in the ourskirts, like the WALL-E film.

It's pretty much like that now (especially true of where I live - you've kind of described the area I live in ).

The supermarkets in the UK are king - you wouldn't believe how much places like Sainsburys and Tescos have an input into things. Like even the legislation that effects them, it's that crazy.

It'll be interesting to see how GAME etc react over the next few days to what the supermarkets have done. I bet the head honcho's at the GAME group are pretty seething about it.

Well, the outspoken ShopTo guy has already mouthed off about the situation. Be interested in hearing GAME's take on the state of play though.

For me, personally, I would rather get the things cheap. GAME jack the prices up FAR too much as it is imho. I mean there was a £20 difference between their DJ Hero price and Sainsburys recently. Same again with this game! MAKRO have been selling MW2 at about £20 ish, which is what I suspect the real trade price is for this game? (I don't buy into it being a loss leader for the supermarkets, they'll be making SOMETHING)

I just can't afford to pay the manrape prices that the 'normal' games stores are charging. I picked it up for ?32 with no travel costs to get there and no messing about.

I was told by the lady who served me that Sainsburg's were buying them for £22.10.

What's their gameplan, do you think? They're making a small profit but people weren't buying their groceries while they were there. People might go later and do it. Is it word-of-mouth advertising? They know people are going to buy it so they'd rather it was bought from them?

                          Any thoughts?

Association possibly QC? People see MW2 for cheap, and probably think their other games are cheap too so go there in future?

Ha ha ha, just had Gameplay's newsletter about MW2 which says:
We could write anything here. Seriously. It hardly seems to matter. Modern Warfare 2 is the culmination of years of scientific research into the mating habits of the Thomson's Gazelle, and is released on the 10th of November to an eager zoological crowd. Or not. You know what it is. You've probably already ordered it. See you online!

The anecdotal reports are that most people are just going in to grab MW2 and not buying much else, but then I don't think supermarkets are truly interested in people going in and also buying packets of Monster Munch and drain cleaner at the same time (at least not with this release).

They're more interested in things like footfall through the door, shifting volume in order to give themselves more buying power, and cementing themselves in peoples minds. People will think "Wow! If MW2 is so cheap, I'm going to come back here again the next time I want a game and see how much it is..."

Totally agree on the comments about GAME's prices. Every time I've been in a retail shop I've been amazed at some of the prices they're charged for stuff.
