    Red Dead Redemption [PS3/360]

Rockstar has announced Red Dead Redemption for PS3 and Xbox 360, which is due out in autumn 2009.

Rockstar has announced Red Dead Redemption for PS3 and Xbox 360, which is due out in autumn 2009.

Developed by Rockstar San Diego, it's a follow-up to 2004's Red Dead Revolver on PS2 and Xbox, and takes an openworld approach to the Wild West, using Rockstar's proprietary RAGE engine.

The publisher describes the game as "a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age".

You'll play as former outlaw John Marston, who traipses around frontier towns and mountain passes getting in gunfights and other battles, and, as with Grand Theft Auto, promises "an endless flow of varied distractions".

The original game was inspired by the work of Sergio Leone and pals and included a Bullet Time-style mechanic called "Dead Eye", allowing you to take out multiple foes like Clint Eastwood. There were also proper duels among other things.
Never played the first, but I'm sure it was fairly well received. This gen GTA in the Wild West sounds good to me.

Looks like the same studio that did the original, along with Midnight Club and the Smugglers Run games. So I guess we can expect awesome horse/stagecoach sections.

    EDIT: Official Site.

Great stuff. I was a big fan of Red Dead Revolver and Gun, so I have high hopes for this.

Oh hell yes. Best cowboy videogame ever made gets a sequel? Well that's cheered me right up.

Having posted this, I'm reminded how much I hate announcements of sequels to cool looking games I never played. Almost immediately I'm off to eBay seeing if I can score the first game.

Did it with Mercenaries (Boy, was that a mistake!) and Black (Which has been rumoured a lot recently) and I'm doing it with this now.

I didn't get on with Red Dead Revolver at all but all the while I was really close to loving it and I'd definitely be curious about checking out a sequel. I can't even remember what I didn't like about the original to be honest. I do remember the setting was superb.

Great news, I personally thought Red Dead Revolver was fantastic.

Though the comments about Grand Theft Auto make me hope its not an open world type game and is more like the original as im not that big a fan of GTA types.

RDR was an awesome game & one of the few I've still kept with my original X-box.

It looked great & played well.

Just hope this is as good as the original & not a big pile of dross like GTA IV was

Will be keeping an eye on this.

I didn't rate the original at all but if its like GTA4 with a wild west setting then I will be happy

Awesome another Cowboy game for 2009 to add to a very small list, I actually hope it is a large openworld game, GUN went some way towards that but fell short so hopefully Rockstar should be able to nail this.

Loved the original. 'bout time the sequel moseyed into town. I just hope the make music choices as smart as the original, bringing in tunes from a host of classic westerns.

We were talking about an open world Western game the other day and then along comes this! The latter of 2009 was looking a bit empty. This fills a big hole.

Oh yes please. There's certainly not too many western games.

Red Dead Revolver was great fun, finished it twice.

I'll second the open world gameplay. Nothing like riding through the wide open plains and shooting dozens of outlaws (hopefully with some Morricone blasting out of your speakers).

Excellent news. Good to see western themes coming back, I'm getting a bit tired of sci-fi settings.
