I've just seen an ad for this on the TV... is it a 3rd person action game or an FPS?

(Yes, this is a serious question)

My local blockbuster has this out on the shelves so they obviously have it already too, when i asked the if it was out the guy said its not and was just on the shelves so I knew i could pre order it.

Its this kind of thing that would make me shop elsewhere if I was even getting it there in the first place, they pretend its on sale and then when you go try to buy it they try and get you to pre order it.

Is there really even any need to pre order from high street shops these days? I cant remember the last time I saw a big title had actualy sold out.

First person, there is also a top down Dead Ops Arcade mode which looks a little like Dead Nation.

I'm off next Tuesday and out the Monday night that many places are doing the usual midnight release thing so I'm considering picking this up then so I don't have to go out on Tues. Anyone ever gone to a midnight opening at a closed location? I'm thinking Trafford Centre but it closes at 10pm so not sure what the protocol is for the inbetween time when everythings shut?

Kobe Bryant and Jimmy Kimmel in the new TV ad:

Call of Duty isn't only enjoyed by businesswomen, construction workers, line cooks and hotel concierges—professional basketball players and late night talk show hosts love it too! Or so says the first, explosive Call of Duty: Black Ops ad.

                    I like the ad.

I've held off pre-ordering this, may pick it up on a whim in a supermarket if its a good price.

Talking purely multiplayer here (arguably the reason its so successfull), thinking back to when COD4 was released, it was hard to think that this could possibly go anywhere but up from that point on. It didn't last though, MW2 to me was a bit of a disaster online. Nuclear bomb drops, harrier jump jets (and multiple aircraft in the air AT THE SAME TIME!), a perk to make you permantley run around like a loon, and worst of all, tactical insertions.

I played MW2 online for the first time yesterday for about 6 months. I was appauled that the 2 Free-for-all games I played, BOTH of them STILL had people hiding away in pairs boosting their scores. It doesn't suprise me in the slightest, as its one of the most popular games ever it attracts probably about 75 percent idiot. But what does this say for gaming, I don't understand the point of continously playing the game like that.

A year on, people still cheating in the game, for what? And why didn't IW fix it? Lots of unanswered questions going into the new COD and because its all "in-secret", I have trouble putting down any serious money for a pre-order. For £25 as a special-offer-type-thing it will offer some playability, but only if the rest of the gaming public play ball.

I've no doubt Treyarch believe they have made the best COD ever. Given from what I have seen, it doesn't appear to do anything different than the last game, and therein anything different from WOW and COD4. In-fact Treyarch's playlists for map rotations was so retarded in WOW, if they haven't changed their approach this is going to be another one of those "I'll skip Treyarch" versions of this series.

The perks system is now so complicated that I bet Treyarch may boast that they have made it more balanced and fair. But where their is a will, there is a way, if any loophole can be exploited, it will be taken. Question is, unlike IW, do Treyarch have the balls to put a stop to it straight away, or are you going to end up with another broken game?

It's no guarantee but this is the 1st COD with a dedicated staff member who's role is to locate, respond to and fix post release bugs/glitches/balancing issues

Thing is, it takes about 5 minutes to "locate bugs and exploits". Go to YouTube and one quick search later, you too can be a cheap little cheating wanker. Why they need someone dedicated to that, who'll probably end up doing nothing anyway, I do not know.

I suspect there are several reasons these big games are allowed to fester with such lowlifes. Firstly, these lowlifes represent a considerable portion of their customers - don't want to upset them, now do they? Second, every patch (anyone who calls a Patch a bloody Title Update deserves a good slap in the back of the head) they release costs money on the consoles. Why spend money fixing something when they can spend the time release quick map packs and charge us for them?

And third, I think some devs refuse to believe there are problems with their games. They're perfect. That is, until the sequel when they finally acknowledge the issues and pledge to fix them. Which they usually don't, and somehow succeed in adding more problems.

If you can't tell, I find the whole situation frustrating. The CoD series could be brilliant online if they only added proper servers and fixed the cheating. In my perfect world, they don't actually fix the exploits; rather they log the users and then simply matchmake them against each other for every game. Ever. Cheater against cheater. Would be wonderful

.... and as well as that, the game automatically reskins the cheaters so their macho character is wearing a pink dress. With a handbag.
