Looking on my shelf right now I can see the following games

Mirrors Edge - Gave it a couple of hours but just knew it wasn't for me.

WarTech Senko no ronde - I was just confused and overwhelmed when I tried to play it and I had other games I was already playing at the time so the idea of struggling with this one didn't appeal.

I think that is the problem though, when I was younger and had less money I would struggle through every single game I owned, even to the point of trying to convince myself it was a decent game. Now that I am old, rich and short of free time I can afford to pick games on a whim and just ignore them if I am not grabbed immediatley by them. That said, I have made a promise to myself to go back to some of these games in the summer holidays and give them another go.

Pretty much every game I buy I only play briefly before shelving it only to come back to it at a later date.
It's very rare for me to play a game through in one sitting, or even spend more than a few days on it. However, I got Killzone 2 last Wednesday and have played nothing else since (as I'm on something of a trophy binge, and I'm really enjoying playing it).
The only other (current-gen) games I've done this with are Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted: El Dorado no Hihou, and Ridge Racer 7. I've at least 25 PS3 titles that are sitting on my shelf having only seen themselves make it past the tutuorial or to the end of the first stage.
The amount of PS2 games I own in the same situation is laughable.
      Kept you waiting, huh?

Three of the biggest games of all time for me, I did not enjoy the early days of my PSX ownership.

Resident Evil - the most pathetic control method of all time meant I gave up on this after 20 minutes. Analogue controls on a digital pad

Final Fantasy 7 - it seems the first hour of this game is spent pressing X. I simply lost patience at this point

Wipeout - I can't stand the control method, too "floaty" after F Zero. Same applies to the HD edition

Loads tbh, but most recent are:

Killzone 2: Found it totally boring and the controls incredibly unresponsive after CoD

Smash Brothers Wii: Played for 5 mins then binned it

No More Heroes: Utter utter ****e

Gran Tourismo Prologue: 5 mins in tray before ejecting to the bay

Condemned 2: Shockingly bad game after reading some decent reviews and too dark to the point where i had to practically block all light to see anything on screen

Resi 5: Maybe the next. Very crappy and fiddly controls so far but will persevere to give it benefit of the doubt. It actually feels worse to play than Resi 4 which its based on. The control method for this game arcane now and needed changing radically.

I'm in the same place atm. I am going back to it once I get through Riddick, though.

I was shocked at how bad the graphics were in the vehicle sections. Astonishing.

What I hate is games that I start and can't get back into. Usually ones with unusual controls and combos – you just don't know what you're meant to be doing or how. Finding it really hard to get back into Phantom Hourglass right now; a shame because the first phase was so much fun.

Resi 5: Played for about 5 mins after completing Dead Space and found it next to unplayable.
Assassins Creed: Couldn't stand the dodgy contols and the way he ran across buildings, never went back.
Back in the past I've tryed loads of games only once usually coz I can't get to grips with it or that it has niggles I couldn't ignore. Micromachines, Soul Caliber 2, Rampage, Jet Set Willy...

Amen to that, brother. Resi 4's controls were fine, yet it seems that for some perverse reason, they decided to go back to ****ty rotational controls which means that with every few steps, you stop to re-align the camera. Great fun when you've got zombies on your tail, but hey it heightens the tension, right? Maybe they should make Resi 6 glitchy and full of crash bugs and justify it with that same excuse. No doubt the fans'll love it.

Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli: Played it late one evening & thought it was alright but found my gaming time taken up by MGS4 & Civ Rev (multiplayer) and never went back.

Perfect Dark Zero: There's plenty of games that I've given a 2nd go before discarding (Okami. Sorry couldn't get in to it. Didn't have the time.) or persevered through to completion despite being underwhelmed (Resistance 2) but I can't think of a time when I've bought a console at launch & rejected the game bought with it at launch after only a couple of hours play.

Lost - The Videogame: This doesn't really fall into this category as such. I played it for a while on the first evening & thought it was truly awful. If I wasn't such a fan of the show my time with it definitely would have ended the first time on the beach let alone the end of the night but instead I decided to watch the play through on YouTube to see if there were even any 'minor' reveals. And then if that wasn't ridiculous enough because I was only a couple of hours from the end, I for some reason decided to play the game to the end to get the very easy 1000 gamer points - even though I had no prior interest in point whoring, having only earned 1000 before from Call of Duty 2.... which you will of course realise was because PD0 never got played.

after the announcement of Forza 3, i remembered i have only played No.2 for maybe the grand total of... 1 corner of one track.

it came in the double pack with Viva Pinata, which my niece finds infinitely entertaining. anyway, i had been sitting for ages so i thought i'd put it on. i go through tons of screens, wait while the cars change then when i choose a time trial and some rice rocket i finally get to race! almost instantly i thought the controls were a nonsense, it looked average even compared to older racers such as R:Racing Evolution, and that i had fooled myself into thinking it was something other than another generic 'realistic' racing title.

i make the first corner and then quit, it remains unplayed ever since.

resi 5, i played it in co-op just past that boss that you have to trap in the furnace. No desire to go back to it, poor setting, poor controls, poor game.
