    Crackdown 2 - Xbox 360

There were rumours flying around a few months ago about new Studio
Ruffian games , who are comprised of several core members of the Crackdown team. Rumour has it that this studio has been partially setup with the hope of developing Crackdown 2 for Microsoft , as Realtime world's are currently occupied.

Anyhows they are hiring for new staff and as part of the process they have requested that the applicant models and textures this building as a test.

Hopefully this isn't just wishful thinking but that building looks very much like the ones in crackdown, right down to the tasty hand-holdable windowsills.

Did the first just not sell well or something? It was absolutely brilliant and I still pop it in every now and again to have a bit of fun. Given how well open-world games like GTA sell, I always assumed that Crackdown must have sold terribly (which, given the Halo 3 beta within it is absolutely amazing) to make them not do a sequel!

It's a game that seems to have been universally loved by anyone who tried it, and whilst other crap gets sequel after sequel, this still languishes on a scrapheap somewhere.

Crackdown 2, if announced would hop straight into my most wanted game list, in the top 3.

I'd read that Realtime Worlds had moved their staff onto their next big thing, APB, and Microsoft asked too late for a sequel as they weren't sure about the original.

I believe the sale were pretty healthy. Last I read MS were calling this Crackdown 1.5 rather than a full blown 2, whatever that means.

Crackdown 1.1 would fine with me!

This would make me very very happy. Still one of the best 360 games imo.

Which is more than enough to warrant a sequel isn't it?

A new crackdown game would go down so well, just some sandbox without any real story to pay attention to, like the first crackdown.... ah man. Crackdown was such a proper sandbox game where you could just dick about without any real pressure to follow ya mission objectives all the time.

I can see it being announced at e3 but we shouldn't expect this game anytime soon.

i think how soon it appears depends on whether its Realtime Worlds or Ruffian doing it, last I saw there was still some debate on this.

RTW seem like a studio with a real 'when its ready' attitude, Ruffian are rumoured to have been funded by Microsoft so could be a little more corporate whore and knock something out quicker.

Just hope this isn't the gaming equivalanet of Robocop 2, Starship Troopers 2 etc, they musn't mess this up.

Halo 3 Beta with Free Crackdown is what most people said, that originally didnt do realtime world/microsoft any favours at all.
Crackdown is just sublime, the co-op experience that game gave is just like no other game to date, co-op orb hunting is great fun and just jumping around tearing the city up, makes me want to revist it.
Realtime were asked about Crackdown 2 just a tad too late as said they put the entire team to work on APB (which is also looking and sounding fantastic)
Am confident ruffian will do a good job on it, they have been pretty much set up from go to make this game and the foundations of Crackdown are all there, all they need to do is tweak and add.
Co-Op super moves would be cool and generally more combat moves/disarms, more vechiles like superbikes that transform into jetskis and maybe hovercraft cars water/land vechiles.
This has to be at E3

Realtime Worlds' studio head Colin MacDonald issued a statement regarding these rumours back in December. Unless things have changed since then, it's pretty clear they don't want Ruffian making a Crackdown sequel:

I just wanted to correct the rumours today surrounding Crackdown. Although to date we haven?t had an offer from Microsoft for the Crackdown sequel rumoured, we continue to have ongoing discussions with them. In the unfortunate event that there isn?t an agreement with RTW reached, Dave said he would ?be gutted not to be involved, but if it had to be that way, I would want to see it done justice ? by an established, renowned developer that had the track record of delivering the quality gaming experience Crackdown players would demand.?

In any event, I also very much doubt that Microsoft would harm an otherwise fruitful existing development relationship by gambling on funding Crackdown 2 with a startup on RTW?s doorstep, for obvious reasons.

Regarding the rumoured RTW departures, we believe that maybe five or six ex-Realtime Worlds staff have been employed by Ruffian in recent weeks. Whilst we?re always sad to lose any member of the RTW family, fans should rest assured that the vast majority of the Crackdown team remain at RTW, and our 200+ talented individuals are working hard towards APB being one of the biggest launches of 2009, as well as on an unannounced project that will cause quite a stir when unveiled.

I'd love to see Crackdown 2 but I'd prefer to wait and have it done right, given the choice. I'm sure Ruffian could make a good game, but I'd always wonder what RTW would've done instead.

                        That's an odd quote.

                        Crackdown 3?

                        What are RTW doing...

Indeed, most of the groundwork has been done, we could easily get away with just another city and a few new agency vehicles and perhaps some way of making the kingpins a bit harder to kill

I started playing CD again the other night. When I traded in my old 360 stuff, it was the only game I kept and I'm so glad I did. The game is simply fun. You can keep your GTA4 dullness thank you very much, give me this any day of the week. This is the BEST sandbox game out there, because it's fun. The sense of empowerment is immense. Jumping up high while auto-locking on to an enemy and shooting them is gaming pleasure. Games need not be a struggle to play and control.

All the sequel needs is a quick control scheme adjustment (or user configuration options), a few more powers to upgrade, and a new city, and we're set. Actually, move the camera back a little when jumping as well, I found myself getting motion sick last night

I'm half tempted to actually model and texture that building myself, but been a long time since I done anything like that.

I actually have CD but it has some laser burn on the disc (I borrowed my mate's to play the Halo 3 beta and my 360 buggered his disc up so I bought him a new one), I was thinking about maybe getting it resurfaced. A bit OT, sorry, but is Crackdown decent enough in single player? I'm not really interested in multiplayer but, seeing as it's sitting here anyway, I may as well try it, not least because it's supposed to be the shizzle
