It's basically an SMG expansion pack isn't it? Not that I'm complaining though given the breadth of imagination that went into the first game; and you always got the impression Galaxy had tons of unused ideas so getting a chance to see some of those ideas in action is a very good thing indeed!

Everything from the trailer screamed fun to me and all seemed to be a bit wackier with a wealth of new ideas. I cannot wait!

I cannot believe the negative reaction to this, the greatest platformer, I ever played in 3d is getting updated, and not with a new forula but with a sequel to something i never wanted to stop playing, I played tge game three times over, and just wanted more and more.

In the n64dd days this is what we wanted with SM64, and expansion to it, and thats all we wanted. I mean Zelda :MM used OOT#s enginbe and mechanics, did it make it any less spectacular??

Now Nintendo is not just doing an expansion here, they are making a game that uses the same engine and universe, and adding tonnes of new ideas characters, and will have the same play time as MG. What does everyone want?? This is the biggest announcement of e3, along with metroid going back to third person, and it's blatantly obvious Ninty has tonnes more to show this year, just not yet. They have Dynamic slash, cosmic walker, and loads more, as well as having Sin and Punishment 2 on the e3 floor!!!!! They are making more games for the core gamer, but they also have a big new market to fill, one that is nuying balance boards and wii fit at rates we would have thought ridiculous and farcicle in the 90s.

            tripled

I honestly believe that with the reaction to many E3 announcements an awful lot of people, not just here, seem to be behaving like total pillocks (IMHO of course)

            no offence.

Yeah the muted reaction has been disappointing but not entirely surprising given the view many people nowadays seem to have for Nintendo.

Galaxy 2 = too similar to the previous game

New Metroid = too different to previous titles

I think this e3 has been fantastic, every single gamer has been given something fantastic to look forward to, and the big 3 manufacturers all seem to have had pretty good showings.

SMG2 looks far, far beyond just an expansion pack. Some of the ideas they showed were completely new.

It seems like many gamers are like babies. If you interfere with a baby's routine, it can get upset.

Gamers are used to Mario games every half a decade. They are used to Valve games having lots of free DLC. But it seems that as soon as these companies go outside of this routine, gamers just can't cope. The awesome news of more of fabulous games to play gets buried beneath some kind of expectation complex.

Last year, I started a thread called something like 'Gamers - Are we crap or wot?'. This kind of thing is exactly what I meant.

I'm not sure if you were referring to me or just generally (given it was me that made the expansion pack remark), but I did say: "Not that I'm complaining though given the breadth of imagination that went into the first game; and you always got the impression Galaxy had tons of unused ideas so getting a chance to see some of those ideas in action is a very good thing indeed".

Just in case anyone missed that...

Not having an enthused reaction to something is apparently a lot worse than calling people 'pillocks' and 'babies' when they don't share your views?

This is a forum about discussing games, it would be boring if we all liked the exact same thing and got equally excited or disappointed by things. Enough with the name calling.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to your post. I've heard a lot of people call it just an 'expansion pack' without qualifying it like you have.

I wasn't directly calling anyone a baby, but complaining about change is something I believe that both babies and gamers do. I do believe that the important stuff (more great games) gets lost beneath the less important stuff.

If what was shown of SMG2 was going to be released as DLC, it would probably have got a more favourable reaction. Which makes no sense as ultimately if it was a new game or DLC is small potatoes next to the fact that it's actually coming in the first place.

All anyone should care about is how much enjoyment their going to get from a product. The rest is just background noise imo.

Sorry to bump this thread! - But is this still coming this year? - This was one of my most anticipated titles for Xmas but it's went extremely quiet.

New Wii Super Mario Bros. holds no interest for me and I suspect Nintendo will hold Galaxy 2 over for early next year. Anybody heard anything?

Galaxy 2 was always a 2010 release, I'm afraid. Nintendo have cheekily said it's basically finished and could have been released this year, but they're holding it back because of NSMB Wii. It's a shame. Would've made a fantastic Christmas game.
