Metroid Dread is just a rumour thats been around for years. Apparently a sequel to fusion. Retro teased a bit with a scan about "project dread nearing completion" or something in prime 3.

If the game ever existed though it has likely long since been canceled. I could be wrong but I think the rumours started back in the gba days.

There have actually been screenshots released of Metroid Dread. Featured a far more detailed sprite than either of the GBA games. Can't find them now as Metroid Dread has been talked about so much since then finding the images is pretty difficult.

However I think the project was pretty much confirmed as being abandoned. Retro studios are working on something though.

GamesRadar+ takes you closer to the games, movies and TV you love.

New Trailer! Voice Acting! Akward Thumbs Down! Nothing that makes it identifiable as Metroid at all (save the logo)!

Zero gameplay footage (why are Nintendo so reluctant to show how this game plays?)

I actually don't hate Samus' voice. It suits her quite well, I was expecting quite the opposite, but it sounds as cold and unemotional as I'd expect from her. It's intrigued me.

But I agree, I would love to see some actual gameplay instead of cuts.

here's hoping samus's grown up voice is Jennifer Hale

The voice is ok, it's the usual Western anime dub acting that lets it down.

I'm assuming that is Samus. This - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd9KiRIduEQ - has her looking as you'd expect (with Team Ninja boob inflatorix applied).

That's far less cringeworthy than the publically released stuff but then, the finale to Super Metroid is still one of the best finishes to a game, would have to struggle to mess up a faithful retelling of it.

Think this is looking very promising and the hands on all seem pretty positive. Roll on release I say!

Surprised at some of the negativity aimed towards this title. Nintendo get slated for churning out the same old formula, then when they mix things up and change it, it's not "Classic" enough. The same will prob get said about the new Zelda title.

Super Metroid is my favourite game, so really can't wait for this, need it right now.

The problem is, with zelda, there's not a single game in the series not identifiable as Zelda within 5 seconds. With the official trailer, it would be any game right up until the logo appeared at the end.

It could be a good game and Metroid Prime is one of the greatest re-inventions of a franchise in existence but at the moment there are two things to be worried about:

-The big thing about this game that Nintendo are pushing is the focus on story and characterisation of Samus. Attempts to do this in Prime 3 and Fusion were the weakest parts of otherwise good games.

-Nintendo don't want us to see what this game plays like. Slapping NDAs on playtests an E3 showing last year with in game graphics that deliberately obfuscated the gameplay + CG only trailers this time. Why are they so afraid of showing how this game plays? It's brings into mind Hollywood movies that don't get press screened (and the implications that go with doing that)

I love the Metroid series but the way this game is being shown off is very weird and that's troubling.

Was revealed at GDC that this was originally going to be a rail shooter but they changed it when Team Ninja came on board. It probably explains why the game has such an odd hybrid setup.

A late format change also possibly explains why Nintendo don't want to show off the gameplay yet.

It flows nicely but I'm not quite sure what it is. I'm not quite sure it knows what it is. That could mean it turns out to be something different and special though.
