Not being able to control the old parts of the dash with gesture and voice controls is the deal breaker for me, so my online order is being returned, it was the backup anyway, and I will not be collecting my in-store order.

I've ended up having to buy a wall mount for mine as I need that extra space from where my TV is to the wall behind.
I have about 7 feet and that's with my back on the other wall, so it's certainly a pain at the moment. Luckily the mount was only £19.99, so wasn't that bad.
Only had 10 minutes on it before leaving for work, but I don't like the camera being B&W in the corner. Also, I don't know if it's me but it doesn't seem to pick up my face (just neck downwards) when using the dashboard. It's also nowhere near as precise as I was expecting it to be, but that's the problem when you see all these "smooth" demos of the device.
I do like how it functions and plays and I'm hoping when I get home my other games have arrived so I can check out Dance Evolution and Joy Ride (although I'm not hoping much for Joy Ride)
I haven't had to move anything (as the room my XBox is in has plenty of space in front of the TV. Even so, the space requirement is a little much. I've got an 8 foot by 11 room that it's in and I think that's a relatively nice sized room and it's barely enough for Kinect, which is slightly ridiculous IMO.Last edited by elaniel; 10-11-2010, 12:53.

Hmmm so I've set mine up, it's almost exactly 6 feet from my sofa front to the sensor , it can't fit me in standing up, my legs are freaking out and it's clear it wants me just a bit further away. Gonna have to rethink.
It Is also required to be raised at least 0.6 metres from the floor but it definitely works better at eye level or higher at the moment

Space is more of an issue for me now i've set it up than I would have imagined, single player works, there is enough space but i'm very near the end of the space available so it does feel somewhat restrictive, also no chance I can fit two people in for it.
As for how well it performs, i've tried Adventures and Kinect Sports so far and Adventures feels laggy and inprecise but Sports feels fine, hardly notice lag on it and the avatars seem to move alot nicer on it.
Its good but I need some more time to get used to it, also the video captures it takes of you on Sports makes me feel like a wally when I see it.

The dash gestures work very well and are very responsive, but if you want to play anything that involves your legs (such as looking at the bottom of an avatar's shoe) then you need to be perfectly spaced.
the calibration tools are telling me to move 4-5 feet in left and right also, I'm not sure how practical this is going to be for me! I'll probably play some kinect adventures then change my room back to how it was
I've not tried any voice recognition stuff yet, still trying to get it to recognise my face, as the night time artificial lights are casting a great big shadow across my face.
oh dear

Gestures don't work on the dashboard as there is no dashboard integration. There's the Kinect hub that you go to from the main Xbox dash by waving in the air left to right. This works for me without having to move furniture out of the way and sat down, so yeah, you can get away with being a little bit closer in the hub.
