According to Microsoft, you can play some Kinect games sitting down. It "varies" by experience. However, several developers giving us demos have said the exact opposite. Sometimes the contradiction comes from the same person--one day telling us you have to be standing and then the next saying everything can be done while sitting.

Which is true? We don't know for certain, as we have not had the opportunity to play anything seated. Suffice to say, if you have to stand for every game (or for menu navigation), that's a big problem. This remains a concern until we ourselves can test out Kinect from our rear.

What a loss this thing is to the world of porn.
It's well known that the reason we innovate and master new technology is the basic human need for better porn. From the pre-historical era, when fire was first used by aboriginal storytellers to project filthy shadow puppets onto cave walls, to the turn-of-the-last-century Zoetropes spinning with hand-drawn humping stick-figures, to the modern era of Ultimate HHDD 1,080,000p Blue Ray, porn has de-dorkified technology. I know some people actually want Kinect to fall on its arse, but it's hard to believe the technology won't work at all while sitting down. For a start, when sitting it only needs to recognise the top half of your body. Is that difficult?

And second - a lot of what MS have been promoting doesn't make any sense if you can't sit down. Why promote video chat as a prime feature in your conference (with a person sitting down at the other end of the video) if you have to stand up while doing it? Why release a video a few days ago with a family watching a film and the Dad skipping part of it (whilst sitting down)?

I can understand that some games can't work while you sitting down, but the basic hand gesture stuff? Really? If it doesn't I agree that is awful, but I'm not going to be convinced by IGN's point just yet.

Because the original 360s don't have this extra port you will have to plug it in the mains. The extra port on the new ones is to power it.
