I'm hoping it's for a choice of using the original Megadrive Sonic design, much prefer the little pot bellied hedgehog over that long limbed freak they created for the newer games.

Also the same page has Robotnik called Eggman, one for the purists, and that homing jump dash thingy.

And yet, still, even this little teaser has me hoping... maybe this could be the one.

As somebody correctly pointed out on the PA forums, Sega still has some work to do before this Sonic looks a good as the SSBM incarnation:
hopefully they'll up the animation to that standard in the final game.
So far I think the teaser clip has a very "NSMB" look to it. It looks like a clinical upgrade of the classic graphics, but with little style to call its own.
that said, NSMB sold 10mil+.... so I'm sure Sega will be happy to copy that game's formula to the letter.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I, the first Sonic game developed exclusively for download, brings back the adventure that Sonic fans have been waiting 16 years for. It will offer the classic Sonic moves that fans love including Spin Dash and Rolling Attack and will also feature Homing Attack.
As far as I can tell, the only purpose of homing attacks is to paper over the fact that Sonic's 3D gameplay is fundamentally broken, making accurate jumping impossible. Why put it in a 2D game?
