I'm hoping it's for a choice of using the original Megadrive Sonic design, much prefer the little pot bellied hedgehog over that long limbed freak they created for the newer games.

I assume the model is the one on the character page?

Also the same page has Robotnik called Eggman, one for the purists, and that homing jump dash thingy.

Yeah I know, I was just referring to the box with the ?, was hoping it might be a choice for the original design assuming the no other characters statement they made is true.

Apparently 5,6,7,8,9 etc are all trademarked too due to squatters nabbing sonicthehedgehog2.com

Mixed feelings about it being episodic DLC.

I know im falling in line like a typical Sonic Team fanboy who really should know better after all the years of abuse we've put up with from said team... But damn IM EXCITED

I must admit that the little 'snippet' of footage that was in the trailer has me excited, it all looks very true to form. We know better than to get our hopes up with Sonic Team, but the love of old-style Sonic overrides this.

Is this by Dimps, or Sonic Team proper?

It does look pretty cool. Its about time though.

Yeah, this sums it up for me too. I'd love to believe they have quit pumping out the cack, love to believe they remembered what made Sonic fun to begin with, love to think they'd be able to make a classic style Sonic game that carries on from where they were in the 16-bit days. I'd love to. I don't.

And yet, still, even this little teaser has me hoping... maybe this could be the one.

As somebody correctly pointed out on the PA forums, Sega still has some work to do before this Sonic looks a good as the SSBM incarnation:

hopefully they'll up the animation to that standard in the final game.

So far I think the teaser clip has a very "NSMB" look to it. It looks like a clinical upgrade of the classic graphics, but with little style to call its own.

that said, NSMB sold 10mil+.... so I'm sure Sega will be happy to copy that game's formula to the letter.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I, the first Sonic game developed exclusively for download, brings back the adventure that Sonic fans have been waiting 16 years for. It will offer the classic Sonic moves that fans love including Spin Dash and Rolling Attack and will also feature Homing Attack.
Eh, don't like the sound of that.

As far as I can tell, the only purpose of homing attacks is to paper over the fact that Sonic's 3D gameplay is fundamentally broken, making accurate jumping impossible. Why put it in a 2D game?

Gamers still care about Sonic? Sega should've buried the blue rat ages ago...

If Sega even wants to try to get some sort of NSMB success, they're best off releasing this as a retail copy. And probably not episodic too.

At least this time they've explicitly stated it's Sonic only, so you can relax on that count. Of course each new episode might introduce a new playable character...
