Believe it launches tomorrow (19th) but you can get it installed and ready to rock via download code, not sure if it launches straight from Splinter Cell disc though.

just downloaded the beta but on pressing start it says "Ubisoft Service not available at this time. Please try again later". great, what's the point in releasing a beta that's not online and ready?

              Pre-load?
There's nothing worse than someone saying THE BETA'S UP and you have to wait hours to download it, thus missing hours of play. Everyone else with insane connections have been playing it enjoying it whilst you wait.
It's the future I tells ya.

                no co-op?

however, i played 2 rounds of MP "adversarial" and, as expected, i didn't like it. another GoW disguised as a tactical shooter. feels pretty much pointless to me. i would rather start a First Play Thread if i had anything good to say about the game but so far, so bad.

Sort of have to agree, that said the last GRAW games where a little like that. I guess its a bit more tactical as you have classes that have different abilities but it feels very much like an arcade cover based shooter now. Much the same as Gear of War or the multiplayer in uncharted 2.

Well it's sad to say now but Tactical Shooters and Consoles don't mix anymore, lets see what the major publishers think....

"'It's a super-vocal audience.' 'They don't buy a lot of games.' 'They buy one game a year.' 'Console gamers are too impatient; they won't play this kind of game.' Console gamers literally are too dumb to play this kind of game."

Anyways I backed this baby, some awesome people behind it could be awesome.

I'm liking aspects so far. It's pretty broken in parts, I've pumped 3 magazines from a pistol in someone and still died! Melee seems completely broken.

However loving the weapon customisation. Playing as a scout so far which is not really suited to the 2 maps on offer. Assault blokes seems to be dominating. Will give the other 2 classes a shot over the weekend.

Overall it's got me interested in getting the full game that's for sure.

Ghost Recon was always about the tactical gameplay and co-op experience for me and lots of other long time fans of the franchise. why Ubisoft doesn't market the series core strenghts but instead pulls out another generic MP mode for beta testing in an already crowded, CoD dominated market is beyond me.

in respect to weapons: the customization options are nice but what about the choice of weapons? fairly limited to say the least. haven't seen a single H&K rifle so far. DLC? i hope not.

It seems the core gamer wants a gears of war type third person shooter. I feel my tastes in games are getting more and more at odds with what the industry is prepared to risk. It is a sad time for strategy shooter fans. I truly believe there could be a market for games closer to the original rainbow six and pc ghost recon games, it's just that the market isn't big enough for publishers to make a profit on.

I am philosophical, the world has changed and I am in the minority, so nothing to do with it, ARMA3 it is then.

I too miss the original console outings of ghost recon and island thunder. They were brilliant in their simplicity and depth. None of this futuristic gadget nonsense either.

Same with R6. I liked the Vegas games and the cover system but miss the old R6 and black arrow. Remember when we could host dedicated servers ourselves on the console? :/

Matt, i fear you are right, tactical shooter fans are an endangered species. also co-op games that demand truly co-operative gaming are getting less popular with every day. have you read Steve Poles article (Edge #239) in respect to Modern Warfare 3's co-op offering?

i still love to play the old Ghost Recon games from time to time. the scope of the maps and, like you said, the simplicity of the gameplay are unmatched. too bad that online co-op isn't working anymore.

Isn't this just a demo and a beta one at that ?. I'm sure Co-op is in the final game.
