I think I might aswell vote for my top three games of 2009 now. After much thought this is what I have.

3. Resident Evil 5 - Not many people will agree with me here but I couldn't care less. For all intents and purposes this is pretty much the same game as Resident Evil 4 which is by no means a bad thing but addition of local and online co-op is what elevates this game to "must play" status....well for me anyway! I loved how the addition of co-op allows you to experience great set pieces and those classic Resident Evil "panic moments" with a friend by your side or on the other end of a headset. Pure awesomeness!

2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - Jaw dropping visuals, check. Great characters and story, check. Engrossing and fun gameplay, check. Uncharted 2 has it all, a superb action/adventure game. As close to an interactive movie experience as you will probably ever get. Oh and Nathan Drake rules!

1. Batman: Arkham Asylum - The best comic book based game ever made, simple as that really. A superb mature storyline combined with some fantastic gameplay. Rocksteady made me feel like the Dark Knight himself, something which many developers before them have failed to do. Infact Batman: Arkham Asylum is not just a great comic book game, it is great game full stop!

Honorable mentions - Assassin's Creed II (just missed out on a place in my top three), Modern Warfare 2, Flower, Killzone 2, FIFA 10 and inFamous

My GOTY has to be Monster Hunter 3. I've played that over EVERYTHING I own. Wii sports resort and the newest chibirobo DS game haven't even been touched.

I think it best, this started as a General Ideas to kick start the thought process and bring up games forgotten about with the Xmas rush.

Is there any chance of having more categories this year? I'd like put forward 3 titles per single platform, for example - it would help reduce any fanboy slant, and more titles would get recognition. Plus I'm having a hard time choosing only 3 titles, would be easier with 3 360, 3 PS3, 3 PC, etc Then you could even have a Best Multiplatform Title, and of course I'd like a Best Graphics and Best Technology poll

You'd get more variety in the titles if we done it per platform. Truth is I can't decide whether to put KZ2 in my Years Top 3, but it would certainly be in my PS3 Only List - probably at the top as well...

I like having the choice of only 3, although some titles won't get mentioned, it really lists the best games of the year.

I'd like there to be a section for discussing games that you played for the first time this year, regardless of when it may have been released.

I like the idea of a best download only title catagory to supplement the traditional 'boxed' top 3, be nice to see things like Plants v Zombies, Trials HD etc get a bit of recognition.

If not I may be forced to use my votes on that type of title to reflect my shifting gaming taste away from the big blockbuster !

A game is a game, it's not like downloadable titles haven't received due recognition in the past (thinking of Wipeout HD)
