new Katamari!!! looks like I am in then....gonna wait for the domestic release though I think, to let them work the launch kinks out.
not getting burnt 3DS style again.

not really a fan of the series but Uncharted looks really good too, that and Everybodys Golf for me too i think.

Sony is developing an external battery pack for the Vita to bump up its modest three to five hour battery life.

Sony have confirmed they're working on an external battery for the Vita to pad out its supply.

Does anyone have any idea how the 3G is going to work?

I'd like to get a Japanese machine on launch (the domestic launch here could be the same date), but I'd like all the 3G bells and whistles along with it. Would I have to purchase a machine from a mobile dealer on a contract or something?

I fear picking up a unit outside of a contract is going to cost stupid money, and then I have to worry about hooking it up with a contract once it gets here.

Hopefully I don't need to worry and we get bundled in with the JP launch (like with the PSP/PS3). All our Nintendo stuff is US based.

Check out this demo of Wipeout 2048 from the Vita event at TGS 2011, which took place in a wee little boat.

Footage of Wipeout. Looking fantastic I have to say.

To be honest most people will use this at home anyway, who wants to be playing uncharted on the bus ? so the battery is not much of a problem for me. All the 3ds haters suddenly go quiet now the vita has such a poor battery too.

Is there no news on a UK release? it looks unlikely to be 2011 at this rate?

Definately not 2011, March looks the likeliest bet

Oh dear, oh dear. Just like, "all the PSP haters suddenly go quiet now the 3DS has such a poor battery too"? PSP/3DS/Vita, it doesn't matter. This level of battery life is pox no matter what machine it's on.

A handheld should have good battery life.

Battery life aside, though, it's region free and a great games line-up. If the Vita can really deliver on what they're saying right now, it's looking really good.

The battery life will depend on if it's genuinely 3-5 hours or if it's like the 3DS and playing most games in 3D with wireless enabled will net a sub 3 hour life.

Besides, there are far more entertaining things to pick on with the 3DS now...

Most consumers aren't that fussed with battery life these days. How long does an iPhone or Blackberry go? The market is now conditioned to just whacking the thing on charge every day.

Battery life was only an issue when you had to buy batteries for it.

3hrs is a pain for planes and train journeys though. Worst part is when their power draw is equal or worse than the rate they charge at (PSP with wireless on, iphone 3GS on any slightly intensive game).

For all the talk about iphone gaming killing portables, everyone seems to forget that all models except the 4 will drain their batteries in under 2 hours for CPU intensive games.

In a strange turn of events I totally disagree with you. I'm allowed to take batteries on a plane. I could take/charge as many batteries as I need for an 8 hour flight. That doesn't help one bit in the case of an iphone, 3ds, psp, Vita etc. though :-(

I'm on the lookout for a solar charger that will support all my gadgetry. Does anyone know if the Vita will support charging via mini usb/micros usb/some other standard connector?

My launch PSP goes about 3 hours between charges now just playing Valkyria 2...

In Asia most people play in transit, the number of iPad2 owners here is whacked - I spot a minimum of five people PER CARRIAGE with one. 3hrs is ****. At least with this and the 3DS I'll have a minimum of 6hrs combined which covers my coach journey between here and KL.

Given how big the Vita needs to be just to accomodate the screen and all the controls you'd have thought there'd be room inside it for a massive battery. I mean, if they came out and said this had a battery life of 10 hours everyone would be like "That's it. It's perfect. Sony win".
