The size is a pain though even though the screen is nice. There's many a pocket it won't fit in

3hrs is a pain for planes and train journeys though. Worst part is when their power draw is equal or worse than the rate they charge at (PSP with wireless on, iphone 3GS on any slightly intensive game).
Seriously do people even use their tech stuff on Plane ? I remember flying to Last Vegas last year and it was made very clear that all Mobiles couldn't be used on the flight , even if put in Flight mode

all the PSP haters suddenly go quiet now the 3DS has such a poor battery too
Most prov the same place where all the PSP/Vita ports haters are to. Somehow Wii/N64 spins and ports are to be celebrated, but god forbid when SONY do the same on their handhelds

This! I found the 3DS's main draw to be utterly unusable in practice
This is where NCL screwed up, not because the 3D doesn't work, but because it doesn't appeal to all those non gamers, mum, grans/granddads:The ones that NCL did so well to but into the DS. They'll have no interest in 3D at all, that is more for tech geeks, gamers and for youngsters

So the 3DS is appealing mainly to the NCL gamer and then the general gamers and compared to the Vita as a games hardware it's lacking a bit

As has been covered several times, the 3DS isn't lacking as a gaming hardware unit compared to the Vita, it's lacked in appropriate positioning and marketing from Nintendo. Otherwise it's like saying the Gameboy suffered against the more powerful Game Gear, DS against the PSP etc. Sure the PSVita is more powerful and has some decent games lined up but it's also more of the same games that the PSP had which will no doubt ensure that the system maintains the brands audience but it won't help it at all to make inroads on Nintendo's larger audience.

Remember when we all said Sony had become complacent, arrogant even, shortly after the PS3 launch because they'd owned the last 2 generations? They felt that they could charge a fortune for the PS3 even though it had hardly any games and people would buy anyway because it's Playstation! I feel like Nintendo have made the same mistake with both the 3ds and the WiiU. The more I look at it now the 3ds seems really rushed. They found a way to do 3D without glasses and just shoved out what is essentially a DSi but with a 3d screen. Take away the 3d (which I had to do because it just spazzes out all the time) and I felt that what I had was basically a DS. Not even a DS Lite or DSi but the original clunky DS. The Vita does at least have more than 1 new feature and looks like it is actually a finished design.

The difference there was the battery life for the Gameboy against the GameGear, the PSP didn't have a touch screen.
Baring the 2nd screen and the 3D gimmick. Vita has the touch screen, comparably battery life and pretty stunning Hardware.

Now if SONY can price the games right (which I doubt) and live up to hype of power and easy of use. It could have a real winner on it's hands this time (not that the PSP is even close to a flop)

They only tell you to turn off during take off and landing, but hardly anyone listens to that bollocks. I just hide my device down the side of my lap when the stewardess does a seat belt check.

Last Time I flew I completed God Of War on the flight out and Socom Fireteam Bravo 3on the way back. I've never been told I can't have a phone turned on at all either.

Here in Tokyo people are always playing their DSs or PSPs on the train to work and back. I guess in Japan, where the device comes from it will be a hit since more than 3 hours really isn't necessary. One thing I've noticed out here is people read a lot more than British people on the train, or on a commute. Almost everyone has a book in their bag which they start reading right after they've put the gaming device down. Again, here more than 3 hours of solid play isn't necessary.

I don't on domestic flights, but on American Airlines last year, they made it quite clear you couldn't use my phone , never mind the PSP

Everytime ive flown to Canada or the states, atleast twice a year for the last 6 years now (damn thats a lot of air miles...). It was made very clear on the screens, by the cabin crew and on the pilots tannoys (sp) that any electrical device of any kind had to switched off on take off and landing, also strictly no wifi devices are allowed to be switched on in wifi mode (for obvious reasons). Phones could not be switched on for the duration of flights.

Ive only ever dared use a DS or my ipod on these flights... You don't wanna upset cabin crew, the bring the food

Ive never been able to use in-flight mode on my phones, does it just cut the actual phone facility out but keep everything else working? Still my current phone is rubbish, as it don't have android or access to any decent apps, hurry up Iphone 5 (you WILL have atleast 60gigs to play with this time, grrr...)!

Yes, the flight mode on phones and stuff just kills the wifi and phone signal. Everything else works. I always use my devices on planes and never have a problem (except for battery life). Used my 3DS flying just yesterday.

And the problem with battery life is not just about flight time because I use them to kill time while waiting in airports too. That time adds up quickly and can extend beyond the battery life of many new devices.

It depends entirely on the airline. Some are really draconian, others don't seem to mind so much.

3DS has been out for less than a year and we hardly know anything about Wii U, so...

By the way... any chance of this topic title actually having Vita in the title now? Will probably help searches.
