Oh my. So add another ?100+ onto the console for battery and decent memory card.

No longer a day one purchase for me.

      32gb = about 29.4gb actually useable.

FFS. It's gonna cost me a bomb for day 1, 32gb, 3G, plus game.

Going off my PSP Go, 32GB seems excessive for me. Music won't take much (given the size of the system it's probably better sticking with the Go for that) and I'm not one for watching video on handhelds as it's an unsuited screen. 16GB should be more than enough

Seeing as they will be selling the console for a near loss as they usually do, sony were always going do bespoke accessories for the console at inflated prices. This has been standard practice in the industry for donkeys years so im not sure why people are shocked.

What about possible downloadable Vita games? They would be big right?

So it seems some games may let you save directly to the game card itself whereas others will need a separate memory card.

So, is there no internal storage at all? Even 512MB or something for saves? Maybe they'll do a Value Pack like they did with the original PSP that comes with a small memory card for saving stuff.

Those Vita memory cards look like slightly altered M2 cards, so I wonder if some clever person will cut up an M2 to fit in the Vita

Well the PSP sold at a loss and still used regular Memory Stick Duos. Even if this is some anti-piracy measure, the point is once the machine is hacked, people will just play games off the proprietary memory card anyway. Now, it could be that this memory card will be Vita-specific forever, or that the design will show up in cameras or phones down the line. Either way, they'd still make money from the cards as people need to buy them anyway. And, besides, if they license the cards to other companies(like Sandisk), they're still taking a cut from those sales.

Well it must have some kind of internal memory for firmware upgrades and system information (psn account?), but probably not accessible for other applications. I cannot remember correctly, but didn't the value pack PSP came with 32MB stick? I assume sony will include a small card, so you can create save file for some games, to get you started.

I imagine Vita games will be a fair number of gig each but personally I wouldn't buy anything off the store that was available via the shops which will only leave me with download only PSN games which won't clutter up the memory card too much as I'd never keep loads on, just what was being used.

I've always ended up maxing the memory on my psp and not needing it. A bit of planning using media go and an 8 gig card should be enough unless you put movies on there.

Does frustrate me that they're using yet another format. What am I supposed to do with all my gigabytes of m2 and ms pro cards!?

The psp was the exception to the rule though mem card wise. Im not saying the cards for vitas arnt grossly over priced, buts its been this way since year dot. As has already been said, hopefully you can pull off some hackery to get cheap standard m2 cars into it.

Cool bit of info on PSP games played on the Vita: You'll be able to remap the buttons and controls so you can take advantage of the additional buttons and the dual sticks.

Imagine that'll be handy for stuff like monster hunter

Resistance should be better too along with Peace Walker (which I play using a DS3 at the moment)! Nice.

                            With half the battery life!

The PSP emulation will be interesting. MIPS to ARM can't be an easy thing to do with a low clock CPU (although 4 cores will help things along). They've said PSP compatibility will be as they can get to 100% which implies they're not doing a HW solution.

I suspect the fact that backwards compatibility is restricted the PSN titles will help things, they can probably develop title-specific solutions for problem titles.
