IMO the closest a game has come to having a perfect balance of emotion and action/drama

Some scenese were just so emotional and, well, beautifully created. I'd love to play it through again but I just don't have the time to commit to it.
This just shows how different people's tastes can be. I found FF8 to be such a dry, soul-less game in every resepct, from characterisation to the awkward plot and its obtuse twists (the one where the characters are reunited with their old matron almost made me feel insulted through its sheer stupiddity).

      Anyway, emotional games then.

Shemue II : Disc 4 - seeing Ryo open up to someone for the first time was really moving. Shenhua really brought out a different side to Ryo. Its the first time you see her since the first game's intro. She's so sweet, gentle and charming and really brings out his soft side.

Xenogears : So many bits. The game's openeing chapters with Fei coming to terms with what he'd (unwittingly) done, the inital euphoria in Lahan giving over to tragedy, little Dan going back to his burning village to save his sister's wedding dress. My eyes almost pricked a lot in this game. Forget Aeris. She was a hero to most, but never meant **** to me. Or something.

Majora's Mask : The music in the final hours of the final night says more than words ever could. The Anju/Kafei wedding things was great, too (if a bit Freudian...).

A special mention must also go to the Kira battle on Gitaroo Man. Aftern the campfire scene, it seems even more touching. Hardly tear-jerking but it does make you go "Aww... that's so nice". The music adds to this a lot.

          Me too. Poor Berri.
Although I would say that the sight of the opera singing great mighty poo was slightly more distressing for me. That game is so good though, remember the bits where

          Funniest game ever, surely.

Aeries in FF7, Ico's ending and the bleeding last boss on Jet Force Gemini (have never been able to beat him) are all worthy a mention IMO.

I definatley agree, with you on shenmue 2 disc 4! i was so sad when the game ended cos i jus didnt wanna let go. The fact that a third installment has still not started production mad me sad to have seen it all end.

              - Shadow run on the snesmade me sad that it was over. Cos i really enjoy that game.

              - Grandia 2 made me kinda sad, again, cos the tale was over.

              - DOAXB that game is so damn strange, that when it ended i was sad, cos i didnt get to play any volleyball, cos i couldn't tempt hitomi to partner with me! Does she not see that i spent nearly a mill' on luxury items for her? Also i didn't ask anyone else to partner with me, does that not show some sign of devotion? bloody beeswax!

              - Enemy Zero was sad if a lil cheesy.

              - Chrono trigger made me sad cos i didnt get to finish it. had it on rental and some one else was already in line for it after me!

I cried at Biohazard on the Playstation, although mostly that was because me and a few friends were pissing ourselves laughing at the voice acting... the tears were streaming down my face. Ditto with Vice City.

Although I did get a bit sad when I realised that I had collected every Megadrive game by certain companies. :'(

Don't be so specific, eh ? People who've played the game will know what you mean ...

When I first ever played A Link to the Past I'd actually hired the import as the PAL release wasn't available at that time. First hearing of the music in the Lost Woods made me all emotional because I didn't own the game, and it was only a matter of days before I had to return it.

I was very young at the time remember. I think LttP was the first game I ever pre-ordered and just HAD TO HAVE on release.

That theme is still one of Nintendo's best IMO - rivalled only by the recent Phendrana vibes of Metroid Prime.

                        Honestly? No.

Games can be good at putting over a good sense of atmosphere though. For instance, parts of the Biohazard series are great at building up a good tension level; and the gradually warping music in Majora's Mask is a good way of representing the whole Alice in Wonderland, through a rabbit hole thing.

                            Klonoa (PlayStation)

I second that game for the one that got to me. I was reduced to tears in the twist. A GREAT game. A shame only Dache and I are the only two gamers in the world to have played it. Haha!

The PS2 sequel lacked the emotional depth of the first - although it sold well. But it would have been very hard to top the first game.

Well first of all, there are some SPOILERS in my post so you have been warned.
I've never cried but some emotional moments are :

                                - Ocarina Of Time: this game was so amazing, I just couldn't believe it was over when I gave the final blow.

                                - Metal Gear Solid: Sniper Wolf's Death

                                - Majora's Mask: pretty much the same reason as with OOT, the music and all made it emotional.

                                - Final Fantasy X: when Auron & Tidus left the group, after spending hours with them (well kinda) it was pretty sad seeing them go, especially Auron cause I think he's cool.

                                - Megaman 2: well, it was my first gameboy game and I was really happy (and proud ) but also a bit sad when I finished it.
