But yeah, I'm having trouble concentrating hard and expending massive efforts to care less than I do already about 3D gaming.

I secretly think John is a planted Sony sales rep too, or at least marketing.
Hey, surely everybody involved in sales and/or marketing in Sony was sacked years ago? You know, both of those people. I'm just repeating what I read on IGN as it seems they have some sort of pre E3 show tonight in the US.

PAIN was updated a couple of weeks or so back in Japan, I only know of that because it was the first to go 3D. Tomorrow is the 2nd 3D firmware update, the first was for games and the one tomorrow is for blu-rays apparently.

Just for you kernow, from the PlayStation blog.

Tomorrow, there will be a special PlayStation Store update, which will usher in a new era of videogames where you can truly feel part of the action. By downloading the 3D Collection you can play WipEout HD, SuperStardust HD, PAIN and a MotorStorm Pacific Rift demo in amazing stereoscopic 3D.

You can download all four for the bargain price of ?29.99 or pick them up for free when you buy a Sony Bravia 3D TV package. Of course, if you already own WipEout HD, SuperStardust HD or PAIN, there will be a free software update, so that you can play them in 3D

Here are a few words from Simon Benson, Senior Development Manager at Evolution Studios, on how stereoscopic 3D works and what it brings to videogames:
PlayStation 3 now supports Stereoscopic 3D, allowing games with 3D features to output two High Definition images at 60Hz when you connect your PS3 to a 3D TV.

As human beings, we see a slightly different view of the world from each of our eyes, and our brains analyse the differences to work out important cues ? this is referred to as stereoscopic 3D. As humans, we evolved this ability due to naturally being predators, allowing us to hunt prey far more effectively, judging more accurately how far away things are and how fast they are moving.

We have taken this idea, so that you can now experience these same advantages in any PlayStation 3 game that supports Stereoscopic 3D features.

As you can see, stereoscopic 3D is not just a novelty; it is something that really makes a difference, particularly to games, and can even give you a competitive edge. Imaging playing a racing game such as MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and being able to judge when to break to avoid collisions, just like you can in a real car.

Many sports games are also perfect for Stereoscopic 3D. After all, how many sports can you play in the real world without 3D vision? Try closing one eye and hitting a ball? good luck! In a nutshell, stereoscopic 3D lets you look at games in the same way as you do the real world, taking them one step closer to reality.

Stereoscopic 3D is also the perfect partner to our new PlayStation Move motion controller. Imagine being able to interact with a game using a 3D controller whilst also viewing it in Stereoscopic 3D, effectively reaching into the screen. This is possibly the biggest gaming revolution in many years.
Stay tuned for more news and features on 3D gaming very soon.

I don't see anything in either of those articles stating that a new firmware is being released today.

watched a couple of these ps4 viral ads earlier this week, its gotta be something to do with the 3d push, surely it cant be something to do with the next console already.

              there again........why the ps4 logo?

Sony have confirmed as fake apparently, even the ads themselves. Professional job though.

Probably a start up agency trying to get their name out.

Had a look this morning and they are offering a complete 3D pack with wipeout/pain/stardust and motorstorm 3d demo for 23.99

In other words if you want to try out motorstorm you have to buy the pack which is crap really.

Already have wipeout and soon as you boot it up, it will update. When you boot into the game it will ask you if you want to enable 3D.

Impressions of Wipeout in 3D are a mixed bag. The 3D effect is really nice but the downside is the resoultion is dropped to 720P and the framerate hovers around 20-30fps. For me this is to much of a drop, especially on a game like this when i`m used to playing at 1080p at 60fps.

Overall the 3D is nice to try every now and again but you aint gonna be using it for long cause of the performance drop. Interested to see how well the new Killzone is gonna run in 3D though, cause if this is any indication, not to well.

Wait, are you telling me that if I try and launch Wipeout it'll update and downgrade the visuals to jerky 720p? I understand you needed to redownload SSHD to get the 3D version, which I have no intention of doing at all.

Only if you run it in 3D mode

Ah, that's OK then. Phew, because that would have been incredibly annoying.

Not sure about the UK but the US Store has a new 3D section which has the MotoStorm 2 3D demo as well as 3D demos for SuperStardust HD & Wipeout HD.
