Syncing takes what, 2 seconds?

On more than one occasion it was taking so long I thought my machine had crashed, but was too frightened to reset it in case I somehow lost my save data.

It was fine in the end, but I never sync them any more. I have broadband, but it runs on almost 56k speeds.

So wait, the more trophies you have stored, the longer it takes?

Does that mean Darwock inadvertently admitted that he doesn't have many trophies?

Knowing Darwock, he's Platinumed all the titles he has and is probably level 50 or something. I'd check but it's too bloody slow, lol.

I suspect it's his location, I'm guessing the servers are in Japan and there are no other globally.

It might have something to do with amount of friends you have? I have 24.

The only time I've had issue with synching was when we bought a second PS3 and it took some time the first time it was done.

I've never counted but it takes what must be a second or two, if you leave it a year between sharing your data with the online server then update it the server has a year's worth of data to share.

Levels and friends list don't seem to affect the speed as I'm around level 15 or something and although I've not counted it there must be about 30/40 friends and family on my friends list at the moment as well as a load of people from here and any update is almost instant.

Would this be a good time to point out that the 360 does it silently and you never actually notice?

You do notice when you've a gap between owning 360s of a few months due to them breaking, it still does it automatically but it takes forever for the achievements, and everything else, to populate.

Hopefully that's changed with the latest dashboards ( I believe the Kinect version is far better?) but it was certainly like that between gaps in ownership we had due to the unreliability.

Luckily I don't give a crap about the low level self gratification that achievements or trophies provide so it's a non issue.

Syncing didn't work for me for months, until last year. Now it doesn't work since November or so. Maybe it does work, but after 2 minutes of waiting I always cancel it.

I don't know if its all bs what I read, but apparently some serious online hacks start to surface in several games. Haven't noticed anything suspicious in BC2... yet. But its a shame if true.

Sony had this to say about the Trophy hack.

“We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it. We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details.” – SCEE Spokesperson

Dejavu, or really the exact same lines Sony spoke to Edge? I'm getting some gut feeling Sony really can't do anything about it at all. Its the root key after all, 'network updates' have to be signed with the existing one iirc.

They can probably revoke the trophies, I remember them doing something similar with a Japanese game getting removed from your trophy list if you you had a non Japanese IP address. Can't remember what game it was now though. Would be a huge task if tons of people do it though.

Surely a quick bit of coding to test if someone has unlocked all the trophies within a few minutes of each other? I guess unlocks are time stamped. Ghost the main trophy server every week, have it running away on the backup so no performance issues, then anyone detected gets ALL trophies wiped, and their avatar is auto-replaced by a giant cock.
