SSFIV 3D (for instance) would surely have NO difference at all between EU/US/JAP versions, no? It's a handheld game at the end of the day played on identical hardware. How could PAL/NTSC differences possibly come into play on a handheld, console port or not?
This wasn't the case with past handheld games.

Let's just say PS1 games in PAL PSP are 50hz borderfests like the originals, IF and only IF Nintendo decided to have a N64 Virtual Console (why they would even bother is beyond me, not when they can take N64 games make them 3D, slap 3DS on it and charge £34.99 for them!) the N64 virtual console games on EU console would be 50hz, in theory.
This in NO way effects ANY 3DS game and never will.

Maybe we'll see some SNK ports on the 3DS? I'll ****in guarantee it. Not that that's a bad thing, I'd immediately prefer ports over anything new.Last edited by dataDave; 14-03-2011, 01:22.

How did all this 50/60hz nonsense start anyway? Can we have a seperate forum for the crazy people?
I used to play WoW in 75hz and 75FPS (according to the video settings), does that mean I win the internet? What if I played it on a laptop and carried it around? Would I lose hurtz and my character deal less damage?Last edited by dataDave; 14-03-2011, 01:20.

PAL = 50hz, 625 lines.
If a company cannot be bothers to record their software to take this into account, when NTSC is converted to PAL, you end up having a game that runs at a 16.6% lower frame rate and speed and huge borders at the top and bottom of the screen.
PC games have been coded for a long time on the principle that resolution and frame rate will vary between systems so they don't link the speed of the game to the frame rate and do the rendering at whatever resolution is requested.
Consoles before they started to use PAL 60, were coded on the principle that the frame rate and resolution would be the same universally so you got this problem when converting to PAL.
Unfortunately, a lot of VC and PSone games on the Wii and PSP keep the poor PAL conversions.

Had a play with my friend's 3DS last night.
The 3D effect itself works extremely well, much better than I expected. It seems to add depth *into* the screen rather than outwards towards the user, but I was impressed at how well it worked.
That said, after playing games in both 3D and 2D mode, I'm not convinced that the 3D itself will be a game-changer for many games. The difference is pretty much what you'd expect if you step back and take a rational look at things - it's the same image, plus depth, and this will be a bigger deal with some games more than others. I think Zelda OOT would look really nice in 3D though, or similar titles with an inherent visual 'depth' to the world.
The Augmented Reality cards are excellent too, probably the best thing I played on the 3DS actually. Definately the best demonstration of the technology at this moment in time.
As for running DS games... I think people are overstating the so-called 'blurryness'. It basically just doesn't look pixel-perfect, it's clearly 'scaled', pretty much what you'd expect when blowing up the image to a resolution that isn't an exact multiple. I think the vast majority of people can safely sell their existing DS to fund a 3DS if they wish to. I was tempted to buy a DSi XL for DS games after reading the complaints on the forum, but I've scrapped that plan. It's a marginal step back in terms of clarity, but I'm pretty convinced I only saw it because I was looking for it.
