I usually play all my consoles, in a darkened room. Never had any problems before, even with the DS, which i had some really long sessions on thanks to Korg DS-10, Mario Bros, Zelda etc. As i've said already i've done 12 hour sessions with no problems at all in the past, and i frequently spend large amounts of time staring at screens when home recording. In fact i used to mainly use a Korg D3200 hard disk recorder, which has got a dinky screen on it that i used to spend hours on end staring at.
I think i'm probably more aware of the health risks with this thing than most, as due to playing in bands, going to gigs etc i've developed pretty bad Tinnitus. Nowadays, i'm really careful with my hearing. In fact when people ask me "why do you wear ear defenders", i tell them "you wouldn't stare into a bright light that was wrecking your eyes, so why happily stand letting bands destroy your hearing with 125db+ levels". Which is quite ironic given my 3DS experience really!
Those sales figures are what i was expecting. Under 7's are ruled out of the 3D, that'll make people suspicious, they won't buy one for their kids because of this, even if they can turn it off. That's a huge chunk of Nintendo's customers gone. Other people will see the warnings on the box. Customer's lost. Side effects of 3D, probably an even bigger chunk of Nintendo's potential customers gone. There's been a fair bit of bad press, including morning TV, on which the presenters claimed it had made themselves and the show's crew feel ill. In fact most of the people who have tested mine have been blown away for the first 5mins but have all quickly complained of eye pain, headaches, feeling a bit funny. All this spreads like wild fire through word of mouth. Just look at various gaming forums, they're full of comments about eye strain, headaches, nausea, vision problems etc. Most people hear these things and run a mile.
I'm serious when i say that this could be Nintendo's new Virtual Boy. It'd be a real shame as the 3D really isn't needed. The 3DS is packed with charm, and brilliant ideas, pretty much all of them more worthy than the 3D feature. Even if it doesn't flop, i can't see this being as popular as the DS, DSI, XL, etc. There are just too many unknown factors regarding the 3D.

Well, there's been a few negative posts recently so though I'd post my positive views!
Starting with the downsides, I'm not quite sure it all "fits together". The bottom screen is no longer the same size/res as the top, so doesn't seem like it'll fit quite so well, and surely touch screen as well as gyroscope stuff will wreck the 3d effect.
On the plus side though, the 3d for me is brilliant. Ridge racer for example, as has been widely reported, doesn't have great graphics, but still looks brilliant to me largely because of the 3d effect. Part of me thinks the novelty will wear off but then I'm going to spend 90% of my time looking at 2d screen so it's not like this will be everywhere...
I've had no problems with controls, it's not exactly comfortable to use, but then I've never found a handheld that is, and it's probably just as good as any.
Really looking forward to see what they can do with the console once people have had a bit more time to make games.

This is some seriously crazy ****! I've not played on the 360 since before i picked up my 3DS. Just fired up Sega All-Stars Racing on it and i'm now seeing it in 3D, exactly the same as the 3DS! Robotnik's exhaust boost is jumping right out of the screen at me and the track has real depth, winding off into the distance. Switched on the TV, i can see Mel Gibson in 3D! This is totally bonkers. How is this even possible!? Its over 12hrs since i last played on the 3DS. Despite all this looking amazing, its starting to freak me out that's its not going to wear off!
