I'm still hyped for the 3DS tbh, despite the fairly mediocre launch line up and the less than ideal battery life. Ridge Racer (if it's not another rehash) and SSFIV are enough to keep me occupied at launch. I'll probably need to wait until I head over to Japan in April before I get my hands on one anyway.
Let me rephrase that the Japanese DS had a way better launch lineup.

Firstly was mario 64, not just a straight port but loads of new added content. Then there was band bros, an awesome launch game & rare for any music game to be a launch title. Also mr driller, i will die for you, zoo keeper, kenshuui tendo doctor. All of these i got at launch with a few others.

Compared to 3DS with just prof layton (if i could actually play it) & thats pretty much it, well maybe puzzle bobble if i was getting desparate.

Yep. Better battery life, less clunky design (I think the split base and bevels around the touchscreen are going to disappear, and hopefully the gloss plastic will go too), and most likely some better screens.
And it'll be right around the corner by the time there's a good library of 3DS games available.

But even knowing all of this- will I be able to resist getting one at launch simply to fart around with the AR cards?
        probably not.

        Edit:
I just read that Nintendo estimates a battery life of 3-4 hours for the DSi set to full brightness, and I've never heard anyone complaining about it.
I'm hoping the 3DS battery life is being underestimated.

3-5 hours for 3DS software. Surely someone will deliver a better translation of the two notes below, but they speak about screen brightness and other conditions; maybe the 5 hours is for lowest brightness with active wireless. The first reviews about the console won't be about the 3D effect but on how long the battery lasts.

Nice, now I can wait to see the US line-up before getting hyped.

3.5hrs is poor for me as I travel a lot. Any word on if the battery is inter-changable?

Ridge Racer could be the killer app for me. It sold me the PSP but at the same time I got bored of it pretty fast. As amazing as it was and played, it felt very clinical and cold to play. It is almost like it had no identity within the series.

I hope the 3DS version is all new. I haven't even tried RR6 for 360.

I'm a tad more concerned about how long it takes to charge. Certainly I've been in situations where I've been going on a trip, and only remembered about an hour beforehand to charge my DS. Luckily this has been enough.

Did anyone like the DS version of Ridge Racer? I'd hold my breath and/or wait for some feedback from a RR obsessive before splashing out on a new handheld just for that.

I'd buy a PSP2 for Ridge however, as Ridge Racers was and still is the nuts.

Has to be said, Capcom are putting everyone else (including Nintendo) to shame with the level of graphics they're pushing out with the MT framework. Having an engine pushing that level of graphics with that framerate on something they've probably only had less than a year to work on is incredibly impressive.

                      That looks very impressive.

Indeed. What do you reckon on that? 30 minutes before needing to charge the battery? LOL

the battery life pants, I enjoy using my smartphones for app and games etc but the battery life is what frustrates the majority of users I'd say. It better be cheaper than £200 otherwise I'll pass.

Would like one of these when cash is spare. Only games that interest me at the mo Winning Eleven a bit (altho the PSP vers are always so-so because of control issues). Resident Evil, Dead Or Alive. Mainly though for me Playing Zelda again . Ridge Racer does not interest me on this. Especially owning RR7 and RRacers.

Layton seems to use a funky mix of 2D and 3D to keep the art style whilst having 3D effects

Level 5's stage presentation is early tomorrow morning (uk time), hope to see more of time travelers

No doubt Nintendo will bring out 3DSlim in early 2012 with longer battery life, better 3D screens, sleeker, sexier design with more colours etc.

I'm not really excited with any of those Japanese launch titles, I'll be back when Mario Kart and Snake will be around...
