    Havin a laugh?
?249? Nintendo are pulling a PlayStation 3 (i.e. following up a very successful console with an expensive gadget-based system, complacently pricing out vast swathes of potential customers who happily bought the previous hardware). Epic facepalm! The 3DS is not going to do amazing well unless Nintendo pull a Nintendo 64 and drop the RRP sharply and suddenly.

Yeah, my house is just full of devices with 3D screens that need no glasses! Lol.

BTW, I do get your point but seriously, 3D without glasses certainly = cutting edge to most people.

I think Nintendo can easily sell everything they intend to ship (4 million units in the first batch) at 249. Probably even at 299. I will buy one no matter the cost, and so will many others too. And seeing it in store will probably only make one more desirable. Not too mention kids with wealthy parents. The marketing for this thing will no doubt be huge. And unlike the PS3, Nintendo can easily drop the price whenever they feel the need (probably wont see a price drop before 2012, and even then it will be a drop of 50£ at most), and still make tons of money of the console itself.

I think those of you who doubt the success of this if launched >249 might have forgotten Kinect. Most of the vocal people in here thought it would fail above 99£. It launched at 130 and sold 8 million in under two months. People today have more money than they did 5 years ago when the DS launched. And people are more accustomed to buying new portable technology. The smartphone trend is an example of that. I have no doubt that this will sell for at least 249, and be a smashing success at the same time.

The thing is as well, whatever it launches at people might as well make their decision there and then as Nintendo are well into the habit now of not doing price drops. Some people might luck out if a supermarket does a short offer or they find a decent value bundle but the Wii has officially held solid at ?180 all this time and the DS has technically risen in price as its gotten older, Nintendo relying on hardware revisions/colours to drive sales rather than price haggling. Both must be epically profitable per unit for Nintendo by now.

It's probably more powerful than the Wii.

I have to say though, the talk flying around that the 3DS will use Friend Codes has sullied my overall optimism for this. :-/

What games are people looking forward to? (Let's have a 3DS love-in!)

                I'm looking forward to:
                Super Street Fighter IV
                Dead or Alive: Dimensions
                Paper Mario
                Starfox 64

I'm hoping some kind of meaty RPG turns up for it soon though..

Ninty admitting that there needs to be more of a consistent release schedule really just comes down to spreading stuff out thinner, over a longer period of time and is probably the reason why a lot of their own 3DS titles are ports (for want of a better term) of old games.

So, one a month, I guess.

Mind, at £35+ a game that's probably a good thing.

I keep changing my mind between US and JPN - from the list so far it'd probably only be ports of the fighters I'd grab (SSFIV / BBCS2) from the JPN list until more of the first party stuff hits, which is not really what I was hoping for. Damn my inability to understand Layton in Japanese!

isn't it true that Steel Diver has been in development for six years?

with that much time, I hope it actually turns out to be good.

Possibly, or not, but then the Wii didn't have to drive three displays.
